Rathcoole’s Mary Buckley is amongst the finalists for Ireland’s Best Baker,  the overall winner will be announced on Ireland AM this Sunday (18th May 2025) on Virgin Media 1 TV. The competition runs in conjunction with Gala Retail and Virgin Media TV, entries were accepted from all over the country, just three remain in the hunt for the outright award  including Mary.

To enter, participants submitted their original recipe from one of six categories: cupcakes, muffins, scones, breads, tart or tray bakes.

Adults compete for the coveted title of Ireland’s Best Baker and a prize of €3,000, while budding bakers aged 12 to 16 entered the Junior Baker category, where the winner receives €1,500.

The grand bake-off judging event can be viewed on Ireland AM this Sunday, the show begins at 9am. Best of luck to Mary in your  bid to become Ireland’s Best Baker.

Contract: 4-month fixed term contract – Full-time (39hrs per week – hours & day of work TBC)

We are looking for a person who is passionate about health and wellness and dedicated to helping others achieve their goals. This is a 4 month fixed term contract in our existing gym to cover a transition period from our existing gym to our new gym which is due to open its doors in September 2025.

We are actively seeking someone to take on the lease of our new gym in Millstreet so there are great future opportunities in this role.

Job Description:
• Deliver a high level of customer service experience, to identify the client’s health & fitness needs and goals, and to work with them to achieve this in a warm and friendly environment.

• Provide tailored fitness plans that are unique to each client’s needs & advise on nutrition.

• Carry out administration tasks required for the smooth running of a busy gym.

You will be required to:

• Work closely with clients to implement their programs – with a strong emphasis on customer
service.
• Create individualised training programs; perform fitness assessments and evaluations.
• Carry out administrative tasks as part of the normal working day to ensure a smooth running
of the business.
• To assist in the marketing and publicity of all activities and events.
• Ensure that the gym is always presented to a high standard, is clean, tidy and uncluttered.
• To ensure sufficient staff are available for the safe, high-quality functioning of the gym
• Always behave to the highest ethical standards in dealing with colleagues and clients.
• To undertake any regulatory requirements.
• Take on any other duties that are assigned to you and for which you have been provided with reasonable knowledge and training in respect of such tasks.

Knowledge & Skills
• A current qualification in personal training and/or gym instruction (NCEHS – NCEF – ITEC) or equivalent.
• An interest in people and working with them.
• The ability to perform under pressure and to multitask.
• Works well on their own and as part of a team.
• Responds well to pressure and change.
• Strong communication skills.
• A willingness to learn.

Spectacular “Grease Lightning” at Millstreet Community School

On Wednesday morning (14th May 2025) a large number of Primary Schools within the catchment area was invited to attend the first performance by the Transition Year Students of the hugely popular Musical “Grease Lightning” at Millstreet Community School.   And “wow“- what a truly magnificent theatrical experience with its highly professional singing, choreography,  staging and 1950s style and atmosphere where we witnessed magical performances of a Hollywood nature from many of the superbly talented Students.  Sincere congratulations to All involved in the many months of dedicated preparation.   We truly encourage attendance either tonight (Thursday) or tomorrow night with the outstanding Show beginning at 8pm.  What a splendid opportunity for us all to enjoy such a wonderfully memorable and very happy musical night of the very best entertainment.   Here we share a selection of images from the Wednesday morning performance.  Tap on the pictures to enlarge.  (S.R.) Celebrating Superb All-Ireland Quiz Winners

On Saturday, 3rd May 2025 All-Ireland Scór Quiz Winners were accorded a royal Millstreet welcome after Evening Mass when Millstreet Pipe Band led the four Members of the Winning Team – Jerry Doody, John Tarrant, Pat Sheehan and Con Healy – in a celebratory parade to Millstreet GAA Community Hall where a large attendance heard a number of interesting addresses and where the the Team were made a number of presentations.   Earlier in the week the Team brought the Cups to four local schools which we shall later share in a special feature.  Renewed congratulations to the splendid Team on such a magnificent achievement.  Tap on the images to enlarge.  (S.R.) Final Performance of “Dying to Meet You”

The Glen Theatre Drama Group’s  production of the hilarious comedy “Dying to Meet You” performs for its final show  in the Glen Theatre, Banteer this Sunday night at 8pm.

On May 2, 2025 unexpectedly, Martin (formerly of Kanturk), son of the late Brian and Margaret.

Bernard Moynihan and members of the O’Keeffe Family in recognition of his truly splendid contribution not only to the Annual Maurice O’Keeffe Traditional Music Festival but to the wonderful world of traditional music in the overall Sliabh Luachra and Co. Limerick areas…and beyond. Con is pictured here with many of his music colleagues from Co. Limerick for whom he has been a brilliant Instructor. They performed magnificently during the excellent Concert in Kiskeam this past Easter Sunday evening.

“Grease Lightning” Spectacular Musical Show at MCS

 Pól Ó Síodhcháin, MCS Principal, shares the following:  “We are very excited to present our first TY Musical on May 15th and 16th.  We will also welcome over 400 children from primary schools in the locality to a special matinée performance at 10am on Wed, 14th May.    We look forward to staging a spectacular Show!  Doors open at 7:30pm on Thurs. 15th and Friday 16th with the Show beginning at 8pm.  We are so grateful to the 70 or so local businesses that have supported us with raffle prizes and/or advertising in our brochure.  We will have a huge raffle at the interval on both nights and there will also be a tuck shop in operation.

MCS presents this spectacular Show, based on the hit musical, “Grease”, in association with Soundtrax.  The stage will feature a huge digital wall and a real car which becomes Grease Lightning before your eyes during the Show!

Tickets are selling fast for both nights.  They are available from the School Office (029) 70087 or via Eventbrite.  We cannot guarantee ticket availability on the door either night so they should be purchased in advance.  €12 per ticket. “

The death has occurred of Sheila Creedon, Liscahane, Millstreet, Co. Cork.

Sheila passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, in the exceptional care of the staff of Teach Altra Nursing Home, Newmarket on May 4th 2025.
Predeceased by her parents Danny and Julia.
Sadly missed and dearly remembered by her loving family, brothers Michael and Neil, sisters Mary Lee, Kathleen Ryan and Eileen McSweeney, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, cousins, friends and neighbours.

Requiem Mass will take place at 11am on Tuesday the 6th of May in St. Patrick’s Church, followed by burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery Millstreet.

Millstreet Pipe Band in Killarney Today for Munster Final

Blessed with magnificent weather at Fitzgerald’s Stadium, Killarney on this Sunday, 4th May 2025…Millstreet Pipe Band led the parade of the two teams Clare and Kerry in advance of the Munster Final.  We thank Gillian McCarthy for sharing the prestigious photo.   The Band was also seen (photo below) in the television coverage of the parade.
