Dia is Mhuire diobh go léir a Cáirde and welcome to my Report.
Oh see what a fine day can do, the warm sunny day on Monday soon dispelled all thoughts of the days and nights of torrential rain and flooding that was with us for most of last week. Mind you they told us it was coming and advised us to be well prepared and I think that the warning was heeded because we had no reports of loss of life or very severe damage. Buíochas le Dia. The little wren is living up to his name as king of the birds because he continues to come to greet me first thing every morning when the other feathered friends don’t show up until much later. He came every morning during the days of heavy rain looking as perky as ever and I couldn’t help but wonder, as to where he spent the night. Maybe the king of the birds has a little castle all of his own tucked up in some safe place that nobody else can see.
Not everybody hated the rain. I was driving along by Drishane one of the days and there were loughs of water on the surface of the planes and the crows were having the time of their lives washing themselves in it. Wings and feathers in a flap as they interacted with each other in gay abandon. I have to admit it was a very uplifting sight amid all the deluges around.
The Aubane Social Club held their annual Tea Dance on Sunday. The music was provided by Timmy Lehane and Billy O’Brien . Needless to say it was well attended and the dancers revelled in the welcome refreshments before they called it a day. Well done to all who helped to make it the great success that it was.
Fundraising in playing a very important role in the lives of many deserving cases. From Morning Coffees to vintage rallies, the badly needed financial help is nothing less than the live line of many needy cases. The event which was help at Colemans Garage on Saturday in aid of Timmy Hickey was an outstanding success and for those who missed it I’m sure the fund is still open.
Meanwhile the Killarney and District Motor Club, held a monster fundraising motor sport event last September in aid of Jack & Jill Foundation and Laura Lynn, Irelands Children’s Foundation. They raised €44,444 on the day and each of the needy cases received €22,222 each. The representative of Jack and Jill said in her address that the money from the Killarney Club will provide just under 1,500 nursing hours for their patients. And For Laura Lynn, their representative said that all the money they received will be spent in the Munster area. People power is great.

Sadly and unfortunately the Cullen and District Association are holding their annual Mass and Christmas Party ALSO on Saturday December 6th . It is very disappointing that these two popular occasions should clash. It’s nobody’s fault, just one of those things and I hope that many new people will join the Cullen Committee on December 6th and who knows it may never happen again.
Our Community School will hold one of their popular ‘Celebration of Culture and Inclusion’ nights, which will include song, dance, music, and cuisine from around the world on Thursday December 4th, at the Community School from 7pm. A great night is assured.
Mallow Hospital weaved their magic for me again last week when I went for my first check up following my illness. My appointment time was 1.55. I was seen at 2, got my blood pressure checked, was sent for an X-Ray. Which I waited five minutes for. I got wheelchair assistance back up to the consulting room where the wonderful Dr. Seán Manning, chief Medical officer was ready to give me his findings ,while Denise got the car and we were ready for home. In total we were there for just one hour. What a blessing Mallow Hospital is. T.G.

They say that a cold and icy spell is on the way please be prepared. Replenish your oil tank and put a few things in the freezer. Above all take care when walking or driving. More and more elderly people are coming to grief from falling, don’t let it happen to you.
Many thanks to Conor Sheahan who kept our spirits up during the floods with his magnificent pictures of the mighty waterfalls at Coomatrush Lake. This radiant valley is one of our dearest assets and we never tire of seeing images of it. It is full of history and stories of the past .Not to mention the medieval boat that lies there.
