Important Ambulance Meeting


There is a important meeting next Thursday March 15th at 5pm in the Wallis Arms Hotel to discuss the proposed cut to her ambulance service in Millstreet – from Cllr. Noel Buckley.

Word is that the HSE are looking to get rid of the Millstreet Ambulance (and possibly the Kanturk Ambulance also), and replace it with a Rapid Response Vehicle (RRV). It’s up to you to get to the meeting and find out what’s really happening.

Glowing Tributes Paid to Sheila McCarthy at Retirement Function

Following twenty years of superbly dedicated service at Millstreet Garda Station, Sheila McCarthy (seated centre) was accorded much richly deserved praise tonight (23/02/2012) at a very pleasant function in the Wallis Arms Hotel in the presence of her work colleagues and family members. Sheila was presented with a magnificent lamp and a beautiful floral bouquet. Every blessing and happiness to the very popular Sheila on her retirement. (S.R.) St.Johns Poker Tournament

Thanks to everyone for supporting the club yesrterday in the annual St.Johns Football Club poker tournament. Seventy four players attended to make it a great success.
After a tough game which lasted 10 hours well done to Ronan Murphy who took first prize on the night.

IFA President John Bryan to visit Millstreet

The Irish Farmers Association President John Bryan will visit Millstreet tomorrow night (Thursday 26th January), when he addresses a Duhallow IFA meeting in the Wallis Arms Hotel at 8:30pm. The meeting will discuss current farming issues, the Common Agriculture Policy 2014 negotiations, and land reclamation. All are welcome.

Aubane’s Annual Fancy Dress Occasion Realises €3,500.00 for Cope Foundation – Presentation Tonight at Wallis Arms Hotel, Millstreet

St. John’s GAA hosted an enjoyable end of season get together in the Wallis Arms Hotel Friday night last, where all concerned viewed 2011 as a year of progress that came close to landing silverware. Millstreet GAA Social

Millstreet GAA Club held their Prizegiving night at the Wallis Arms last weekend. While a great night was had, a number of awards were given to players who excelled during the year, and to club members who have given hugely of their time and effort to the club:

From a list of potential candidates , the vision and authority that our dual recipient brought to his game on the field culminated with an immense display that helped Millstreet regain the Duhallow U21 Football Championship crown after a 20 year lapse.

Equally adapt in both hurling and football merits Michael Vaughan a deserving recipient of the inaugural Tadhg Moynihan Memorial Trophy.

Golden Jubilee of Millstreet Bridge Club ~ 1961-2011

Members of Millstreet Bridge Club and Friends following the celebration of Mass on Thursday, 13th October 2011 by Canon John Fitzgerald, P.P. in St. Patrick's Church, Millstreet marking the 50th Anniversary of Millstreet Bridge Club. Millstreet Tidy Towns Association Celebrates Success & Acknowledges Help

Noreen Dennehy, as one of the principal co-ordinators in Millstreet Tidy Towns Association, is presented with a beautiful bouquet of flowers at the Wallis Arms Hotel tonight (5th Sept.) on the occasion of a celebratory function when members of the dedicated Association marked the fact they wished to acknowledge the help accorded on the many Thursday night clean-up projects. And purely coincidentally, Millstreet was awarded not only a national bronze medal in category D but also a number of financial awards announced earlier today in Dublin at the National Tidy Towns Awards 2011 ceremony. Noreen in her address very especially expressed sincere thanks to Millstreet Macra na Feirme for their much appreciated help over the past number of months. With a hugely impressive mark of 291 Millstreet is only 19 marks behind Ireland's 2011 Tidiest Town, Killarney. Congratulations to both Killarney and Millstreet. Tonight's get together involved a group who assembled and worked together every Thursday night for the clean-up project over the past season. The overall Millstreet Tidy Towns Association will celebrate today's national award at a later point. (S.R.)

James Gillespie Walks from Malin to Mizen for Childline

This is the truly inspiring James Gillespie from Strabane in Northern Ireland who on this 21st June, the longest day of the year, arrived in Millstreet with some three days of his wonderful marathon All-Ireland Walk left when he will reach Mizen.

“Spooktacular” Halloween Fancy Dress Party

A “Spooktacular” Halloween Fancy Dress will be held on Friday 30th October at The Wallis Arms Hotel in Millstreet, with all proceeds raised going to the Cystic Fibrosis Association of Ireland (CFAI).

Organised by Aubane Social Club and The Wallis Arms, this annual charity event promises to be a fun filled night with music by The Celts at 9pm followed by Mad Dave DJ, a delicious barbecue with O’Leary Family Butchers, a super raffle and of course prizes for the “Best Costumes”.

Guests will be able to bid of fantastic items such as signed Munster and Ireland Rugby Jerseys, a Laptop worth €2,000, two weeks in an apartment in Portugal, Spa Treatments at The Brehon and much more in the Charity Auction, with proceeds going directly towards Cystic Fibrosis (CF) facilities in Cork University Hospital.
