Recalling a Corpus Christi Procession of bygone decades at The Square, Millstreet. Little did we think that by 2023 a new Mural would be in place just nearby down at the end of Minor Row.
Such great progress had been achieved by Artist Neil O’Dwyer. Still to watch out for in the present blank areasvery apt lines of Poetry as well as a Millstreet sign which will truly identify this artistic gem as being special to our own Sráid a’ Mhuilinn – Millstreet.
Neil O’Dwyer’s magnificent Mural gets better and better as work continues!
Note some of the wonderful details of the Mural – the horses, the people, the bargaining, a little dog – all part of the regular Fairs of bygone days.  In fact, the inclusion of the lady and gentleman pictured on the top right of the Mural recalls a 1930s photo from our 1997 publication “Picture Millstreet” showing Pound Hill residents “Babe” Han O’Riordan (née Twomey) with her father, John Twomey.  Great to note such a local connection remembering those two wonderful people.
Note the Millstreet features – the Tower of St. Anna’s Church of Ireland (appearing on the chimney) and the view from the Fair Field looking east towards Cashman’s Park.
Minor Row Residents such as John Coleman (pictured) are quite thrilled with the new Mural which is wonderfully enhancing this well known part of Millstreet Town.  It is also such a fitting tribute to the memory of the late Tim and Ann O’Riordan who would undoubtedly have been hugely impressed by the outstanding Mural on the gable end of their very welcoming home.
