Three members of Millstreet Town Park Committee visited John O’Keeffe at Teach Altra, Newmarket this Friday morning (22nd Feb. 2019) to reveal the very impressive Dedication Plaque to John who was truly delighted with such an uplifting gesture. The Plaque will be put in place at the Bridge within Millstreet Town Park next week. We thank Denis Hickey for sharing the two images taken in Newmarket this morning. And we’ve drawn from our Millstreet Museum Archive a very happy picture of John & Lena taken on 18th July 2006 photographed across the road from Centra in West End. Click on all images to enlarge. On Sunday, 23rd September 2018 the annual GAA Hurling Games for the Connie Kelleher Memorial Trophy, the Tommy O’Connor and Alan O’Connor Memorial Trophies took place in splendid weather at Millstreet Town Park. This year a magnificent Trophy in memory of the late Connie Hickey (who was a dedicated Coach) was introduced and presented by the Hickey Family. The event was superbly organized with the inclusion of Millstreet Pipe Band, the flying of the National Flag and the presentations at the GAA Community Hall followed by excellent refreshments for everyone. A huge attendance was in evidence with many people travelling from afar for the special occasion. The dedicated Committee with such people as Mag O’Connor and John O’Riordan and many others ensured a most successful annual event. Here we share the first of our pictorial recordings from the uplifting occasion. Click on the images to enlarge. (S.R.) Many Primary Schools participated enthusiastically in the Annual School Sports held at Millstreet Town Park on Monday, 18th June 2018. On Wednesday, 13th June 2013 (Feast of St. Anthony of Padua) Millstreet Camogie Team extended a royal welcome to Cork Hurling Star Supreme – Alan Cadogan who participated in a most impressive coaching session followed by the signing of an enormous number of autographs and standing in for numerous photographs. Alan was most generous with his time, his interest and in his advice. The overall event was kindly sponsored by CAB Motors, Cork and Millstreet won the recent competition on Facebook with the most “likes” with Deirdre Looney and her Co-workers coordinating the successful project. Later we shall upload a full pictorial feature but here we share the overall Team Photograph with Alan Cadogan. Despite the wet and windy conditions in the Town Park it was a most enjoyable occasion with an excellent Barbeque provided by Tony O’Brien and his Team. Click on the image to enlarge. (S.R.)

We were fortunate to record a truly magnificent Rainbow over Millstreet Town Park at 5.30 this evening (Sunday, 15th April 2018). It looked like the end of the rainbow … with its pot of gold … appeared to be over the Pitch-and-Putt Course! Even the walkers in the Park at the time never felt closer to a rainbow. But when you come to think about it – the recent wonderfully upgraded Pitch-and-Putt Course must be gold to its many Loyal Players. Here we share four images of this evening’s “rainbow magic”. Happy childhood memories the best memories of all
And my younger years in Millstreet I will always recall
On evenings in Summer up to the mid Fall
In the Townpark at the West End we played gaelic football
My friends of my youth where might they be today
Like me have the years left them balder and gray
Though some of them in the home Parish did stay
In life one might say we just went our own way
Since those days so many years have come and gone
And time does not wait it just ticks on and on
Many of the friends of my youth I may not see again
Though good memories of them with me does remain
And in fancy I chase the football up and down
With my happy young friends in the Park of the Town.
