Thought for the week ahead

Christianity is not merely belief.

It is the practice of that belief by active charity. (Frank Duff)Saturday 21st November celebrates the feast day for the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, and celebrates when Mary was asked to be the mother of the Jesus. Her response, “Let it be done to me,” was a great act of faith as she placed her whole self at the service of God.

This weekend we say a special prayer for mothers everywhere and ask the Blessed Virgin Mary to protect them and guide them in these challenging times.

As a mark of respect to the sisters of the Presentation Order a wreath was laid in the Presentation Cemetery by the Girls National School and the Community School in recognition of the service the sisters have given to our Parish. [read more …] “Millstreet Parish Newsletter 22nd November 2020”

Geraldine Goggin with one of the two hugely important Millstreet Posters which she has kindly presented to Millstreet Museum in memory of the late Michael and Matthew Murphy.
We believe the year of this magnificent Poster is either 1960 or 1965. Perhaps someone who attended the historic occasion at the “Star” Ballroom might confirm the correct year.
A wonderful “West End Cinema” Poster from 1973 which was the year that the Cinema closed. For years we were hoping to acquire for Millstreet Museum one of these precious Posters. Earlier Posters were narrower. If anyone finds such Posters we would be so very glad to make a copy of such Posters for archival purposes.   Many thanks to Geraldine Goggin for this great Poster.

This weekend we are once again facing a time of uncertainty as a community, Parish and country.  We are experiencing such a range of emotions and everyone is fearful of this virus coming into our lives and homes and the affect it would have on our loved ones and on ourselves. During the month of October let us pray to Our Lady for the strength and courage we need and let the words of Pope Francis be a daily reminder of how much we have to offer those who may need it. A new dimension to our weekly “Lunchtime Favourites” Show is being introduced this Sunday.   It all emerges from a suggestion we received from Millstreet Active Retirement Association:  It is very creatively suggested that we introduce the new idea in the following manner:  “A very special welcome today to all our Friends in Millstreet Active Retirement Association who because of the present Covid restrictions in place cannot resume the weekly dancing and yoga in the chair classes we all enjoyed so much.
So, my dear friends, like Din Joe in The Good Old Days, I invite you all to Take The Floor and dance, march and exercise to your heart’s content over the next hour of our weekly “Lunchtime Favourites”.
Let’s start the ball rolling with a selection of lively marches. Here we go….”  And I can promise you a wide variety of wonderfully rhythmic tunes – where one will wish to dance, waltz and relax.
