The true spirit of Christmas is in evidence throughout Millstreet Town with the official turning on of the Christmas Lights at The Square on Friday evening (7th Dec. 2018) revealing a magnificent festive creation, the Christmas Jumper GAA Run in aid of Irish Cancer Society on Saturday and people adding Christmas magic to shop windows with outdoor Christmas Trees further enhancing the atmosphere. This year our Christmas Tree is located near the Corner by the original Tom Radley’s Forge. Here we share a variety of images illustrating that wonderful Christmas Spirit. The fields on either side of the Finnow cloaked in gray
And the turkey cooking for dinner on Christmas Day
And farmers say the frost is quite severe
But such expected at this time of year.
The housebound cows bellow for silage or hay
And little children with their new toys play
And robins by the back door wait for bread
On Christmas Day they too like to be fed.
The church bell ring in nearby Millstreet Town
For the last mass the seconds tolling down
And last night snow fell high on Clara hill
And Coomlogane bare to the winter chill

Fair play to all that braved the Mushera Mountain Climb on this wet and windy Christmas morning, in aid of our local Reach Out Cancer Support. Not for the faint heartded as the rain was horizontal on top of the mountain, but here’s a few of those that went up:
There was no hanging around at the top, and only this small group was there when we arrived Clara and Ainsey were collecting donations for ROCS at the start of the climbJohn Dineen, John Twomey, Darragh Twomey and Michael O’Riordan were having a break in some shelter
One side of the potato-pits was white with frost –
How wonderful that was, how wonderful!
And when we put our ears to the paling-post
The music that came out was magical.
The light between the ricks of hay and straw
Was a hole in Heaven’s gable. An apple tree
With its December-glinting fruit we saw –
O you, Eve, were the world that tempted me
To eat the knowledge that grew in clay
And death the germ within it! Now and then
I can remember something of the gay
Garden that was childhood’s. Again
