President Mary Robinson’s Speech at the opening of the Canon O’Donovan Centre

SPEAKING NOTES FOR PRESIDENT ROBINSON AT THE OPENING OF MILLSTREET SHELTERED HOUSING & DAY CENTRE ON SUNDAY 18TH DECEMBER, 1994

–         I very much appreciate your generous invitation to be present today at the opening of the Sheltered Housing and Day Care Centre here in Millstreet.  I would especially like to thank Mr. Michael Feeley, Chairman of the Millstreet & District Housing Association, for asking me to perform this pleasant task.  I am always glad of opportunities to meet with members of voluntary bodies and to assist and encourage them in their activities.-         I would like to take this opportunity to compliment the Millstreet & District Housing Association Ltd. for their initiative in developing this new project.  I note that the Association was formed in 1991 and I am greatly impressed that so much work has been completed in such a short space of time.

Breeda & Edward Providing Superb “Meals on Wheels”

Breeda Pigott and Edward Casey pictured providing the hugely important service from Millstreet Day Care Centre of "Meals on Wheels".  Over the past six years Breeda has been such a wonderfully dedicated, cheerful and consistently helpful member of the inspiring team.  Sadly Breeda's official time on the excellent scheme ended on this Thursday, 30th Nov. 2014. Exquisite “Clara Garden” at Day Care Centre Officially Opened by Marvellous Julia on Her 100th Birthday to the Great Applause of All

Assisted by Mary Feeley it was 100 years young Julia Murphy who officially opened the magnificent new "Clara Garden" at Millstreet Day Care Centre on Clara Road on Wednesday, 30th April 2014.  It was a truly superb day at the Centre where lots of great celebrations took place to pay special tribute to Julia on such an historic Birthday. Michael’s Musical Choices Prove To Be Real Winners

Some of the many people who attended tonight's superb Millstreet Gramophone Circle presentation by Michael Drew, Boherbue (on extreme right).  It was Michael's first presentation and it was a tremendous success enjoyed by a capacity audience including young Daniel and James from Ballinatona, Millstreet.

It was Michael’s first presentation and it was a tremendous success enjoyed by a capacity audience which included young Daniel and James from Ballinatona, Millstreet.  The next meeting which will take place on Friday, 19th April at 8.15 pm in the Canon O’Donovan Centre will be given by Margaret McCarron, Bandon (nee O’Donoghue, Cullen) – pictured fourth from left.  My job as DJ was made so much easier tonight because Michael had edited his complete programme in just two discs.   Because of the generosity of those present to our usual Draw we shall be making a contribution to the Daffodil Day local organisers.   (S.R.)

National Culture Night & Millstreet Gramophone Circle

Friday, 21st September 2012 is National Culture Night in Ireland.   Millstreet marks this occasion in the Canon O’Donovan Centre at 8.15pm when Con Kelleher, Cloghoulabeg will present a splendid programme of wonderful music at our monthly Gramophone Circle presentation.   Admission is free.   We hold a draw at the interval.   All are very welcome.   (S.R.)

In Cullen Pipe Band Hall there will be music performed by the Irish Piobaireachd Society and the Cullen Pipe Band. There will also be a trad session with local musicians, singers, dancers, poetry and all rounded off with a cupán tae.

Celebrated Poet and Lecturer, Bernard O’Donoghue, Oxford and Cullen will present the programme at this Friday’s Millstreet Gramophone Circle in the Canon O’Donovan Centre at Clara Road at 8.15 p.m..   All are very welcome.

Some of the very large attendance in the Canon O’Donovan Centre tonight for Millstreet Gramophone Circle. The excellent presentation (in memory of the late Donal Cowman) was given by Nora Burke, Kanturk (6th from left) while at the end of the presentation Maurice Linehan paid special tribute and expressed sincere thanks.    Professor Bernard O’Donoghue of Cullen & Oxford will give the next presentation on Friday, 10th August 2012.  (S.R.)

Margaret Presents Some Wonderful Musical Gems at Gramophone Circle

Pictured tonight (18th May) at the very enjoyable Millstreet Gramophone Circle presentation by Margaret McCarron, Bandon and Cullen (third from left in the turquoise/green style).    The many people attending were treated to a magnificent selection of exquisite music which was relaxing, tuneful and very pleasantly atmospheric.    The DJ supreme was, as usual,  Donal Cowman.  The occasion took place in the Canon O’Donovan Centre, Clara Road, Millstreet.   (S.R.)
