Last Man Standing update

The first Last Man Standing has drawn to a close with Eamon McCaul and Colin Healy both knocked out this week leaving them to share the jackpot. €225 on it’s way to each of them. Well done to the lads and thanks to all who took part in the competition. [see the full final results of the first competition]

Noel’s 70th Birthday Celebrated at the “Clara Inn”

Although Noel's 70th Birthday does not take place until Christmas Eve, a truly wonderful celebration especially paid tribute to the ever-popular Noel Collins of Clara Road at the "Clara Inn" on Thursday, 22nd December 2011 when his wife, Eileen and many Friends assembled for a most enjoyable occasion.

We thank Fergal in Australia (son of Noel & Eileen) for alerting us to Noel’s special birthday.   Noel celebrated his 60th Birthday in Sydney, Australia.  ” For the past 70 years,” says Noel,  “I have only received  presents for one occasion – my Christmas and Birthday presents always coincided!”  Now we realise why Noel is called Noel – his birthday could not be closer [read more …] “Noel’s 70th Birthday Celebrated at the “Clara Inn””

Cloghoula N.S. Christmas Play …With a Fourth Wise Man!

An absolutely delightful Christmas Play with a fourth Wise Man received its premiere in Cloghoula N.S. on Wednesday, 21st Dec. 2011 before a hugely appreciative audience. We shall be featuring a very brief sequence from the performance on LTV2 on Christmas Day in the 11.30pm to midnight slot. Also included here with the pupils are Teacher Leo McCarthy and Principal Mary Murphy. (S.R.)

Rose of Tralee 2011 to Feature on LTV2 Millstreet this Thursday

Brendan Murphy with video camera at Rathmore Food Fair on Sunday. Included in our LTV2 transmission this Thursday is an interview with Rose of Tralee, Tara Talbot and also with Michael Healy-Rea, T.D. and Mairéad Kelly who is holding the All-Ireland Cup won by Cork Ladies Football Team at Croke Park in September 2011 . Also included in our picture here is the main coordinator of the Food Fair - Michael O'Mahony. (S.R.)

Fondest greetings dear listeners and I wish you all the very best on this nice mild morning in the run-up to Christmas.

Santa came down from the air at Carriganima on Sunday last as promised. A very large crowd gathered to see the helicopter land with the ease of a bird in Walshes field adjacent to the village. It was a joy to watch the little children, wide-eyed with amazement at the scene. A great evening followed with every little one going home with a parcel to open.

Collecting ink cartridges and old mobiles for charity

Millstreet Community School are collecting used ink cartridges (from all types of printers) and old mobile phones for charity at the school. If anybody has any of the above, they can be dropped into the Community School. All funds raised are for the cancer appeal in the Mercy Hospital.

Athletics: Mary Finn running for Millstreet AC finished third in the over 50s in the Newmarket 5K last weekend, in a time of 24:04 [full results]
Soccer: All games last weekend were cancelled because of the weather.
Greyhounds: Donie O’Mahony’s dog Millridge Ranger ran an impressive 525 time of 29:51 to take the first race in Tralee, coming from well back in third at the first bend to win by three lengths. see the video below:

Programme 193 LTV2 Millstreet – Extra Information

Programmes 193, 194 and 195 will appear shortly on our website. Programme 196 will be broadcast this Thursday night at 10.00 p.m. and will be repeated on Thursday, 5th January 2012 (not repeated on this Sunday which is Christmas Day). LTV2 Millstreet will have five special half-hour programmes on Christmas Day – 7 to 8 pm; 10 – 11 pm and 11.30 to midnight.
Prog. 193 will be on website this evening while Prog. 194 may be viewed on Thursday and Prog. 195 on Saturday – Many thanks to Michael for arranging the upload of these programmes and to Bernard for his coordination of our LTV2 programmes on the Internet. There is now an increasing number of people viewing the various programmes on the LTV2 and Millstreet websites in many countries worldwide.  We would be very interesting to hear from such international viewers as to where you may be seeing the programmes.  Kindly add a brief comment here on this post indicating the part of the world in which you access our programmes and the overall website.  (S.R.)

Death Notice: Sr Josephine Healy, Drishane Sister

The death has occurred on Saturday, December 17, 2011 of Sr Josephine HEALY of Singapore and Infant Jesus Sisters, Drishane, Cork. Late of Castle Street, Tralee. Requiem Mass at 11am today, Monday, in the Church of the Holy Spirit, Dennehy’s Cross. Funeral afterwards to the Convent Plot, Drishane Cemetery.

Prizewinners of Millstreet Traders Week Promotion Christmas 2011

At a presentation to the prizewinners in the Millstreet Traders Week promotion were Tony McCaul, Chairman Millstreet Development Group; runner up Tessie Dennehy, Derinagree (who won €25 vouchers for 22 shops in Millstreet); Jerry Pat O'Leary, Chairman, Millstreet Retail Group; outright winner Donal O'Sullivan, Kilcorney (who won €50 vouchers for 22 shops in Millstreet) and Billy Sheahan, Wallis Arms Hotel. Rose of Tralee at Rathmore’s Food Fair Today

The very beautiful 2011 Rose of Tralee, Tara Talbot from Queensland, Australia (who has stong Irish roots) pictured today (18th Dec.) with members of Millstreet Pipe Band at Rathmore Community Centre where she was special Guest of Honour at the exquisite Rathmore Food Fair in aid of Air Ambulance Ireland. Church Television Signal Restored

Many thanks to John Hickey (Cullen) and his dedicated Staff who, following working on the system which was recently damaged by lightening, have now restored the signal which permits one to receive the transmission of Mass and other Church Services.    To carry out this repair work two further experts from Dublin travelled to Millstreet earlier today.   The signal is available on Channel 53 UHF (horizontal polarisation) and is available over quite a distance within the overall general area of Millstreet.   (S.R.)

Twinning Association’s 2011 Christmas Get-together at McCarthy’s Bar

Members of Millstreet Twinning Association came together for a most enjoyable evening of refreshments, drinks, songs and carols at McCarthy's Bar, The Square, Millstreet on Friday night, 16th December 2011.

The death has occurred on Friday, December 16, 2011 of Thomas Cronin of Coolinarne, Millstreet.
Reposing at Tarrant’s Funeral Home, Millstreet this Saturday evening from 6pm, followed by removal at 8pm to St. Patrick’s Church, Millstreet. Requiem Mass tomorrow, Sunday, at 11.30am. Burial afterwards in St. Mary’s Cemetery. No flowers please. Donations, in lieu, to Millstreet Community Hospital.

Millstreet experienced snow, ice and very cold temperatures this Friday morning (16/12/2011). Here we view Cashman's Park in the distance covered in snow as viewed from Mount Leader Estate, Clara Road.

Very Successful Boxing Event at Green Glens Last Saturday Night

Pictured with two members of the NYPD are Fr. Paddy O'Byrne with Jimmy, Colm and James O'Leary. The Boxing Event organised by the Rylane Boxing Club was a great success with Cullen Pipe Band Coordinator, Connie Houlihan, expertly piping in the various American (from New York) and Irish Boxers to the enthusiastic applause of the capacity audience. Niall Receives His Television Prize at AIB Millstreet This Evening

The AIB -sponsored First Prize won at the Annual Millstreet Development Group Bazaar in Millstreet GAA Community Hall on 20/11/2011 was presented this evening (14/12/2011) at the AIB Bank premises. Fondest greetings dear listeners and I wish you all the very best on this cold Tuesday morning with traces of snow on the ground.

 

Blood donor clinic at our GAA Hall to-morrow Wednesday from 5 to 8 pm.
The monthly meeting of the Community Council will be held to-night at the
Wallis Arms Hotel starting at 8.30 all members please attend.

Dromtarriffe ICA Flower arranging   demonstration to-night, at 8,30.

The whole place is awash with fundraising events, Office parties and children’s  Christmas concerts etc. All helping in their own way to build up
the spirit of Christmas.

And as well as that all the usual voluntary groups continue to run the
countless number of clubs and classes that are the mainstay of our
community throughout the  year. Where would the world be without
volunteering.
