The Clara News

It started as a newsletter and it’s readership was small
And when the Clara News was born to life offhand I can’t recall
Perhaps in the mid sixties but what year I do not know
The babe back then now past his prime it seems so long ago.

The Clara News has come of age and it’s now read far and wide
And it’s editor Denis Reardon on his achievement can take pride
The newsletter he helped to launch to a magazine has grown
And in every corner of the globe the Clara News is known.

Methodist Update – January 2011

Since the early days of the Methodist movement, over 250 years ago, congregations were invited to share in a Service once a year to renew their Covenant relationship with God.  A covenant is an agreement or set of promises which 2 people exchange.  It implies a commitment to each other.  So our covenant with God begins with Him in that He has given himself for us on the cross and through His resurrection we are born again into Eternal Life.  We are then called to respond by giving our lives to Him, by dying to ourself.

During our Covenant Service we shall have time to confess our sins to God, receive his forgiveness and be reminded of his promises to us.

There will be a sermon on this theme and then we will share the words of the following prayer before ending with Communion.

Sisters and brothers in Christ, let us again accept our place within this covenant which God has made with us and with all who are called to be [read more …] “Methodist Update – January 2011”

The boy who is all Heart

The 4-year-old son of Irish immigrants bravely battles congenital heart disease and continues to beat the odds

“I have a special heart you know,” a vivacious four-year-old told the Irish Voice last weekend.

Little Adam was born with a rare congenital heart condition. It has been an extremely difficult first couple of years for Adam and his family, but things are getting better.

“It’s going to be a great Christmas this year,” said Adam’s mom Lisa.

Adam has been through several invasive surgeries since his birth. His last surgery was this past August, and since then Adam has shown signs of great improvement.

“Look at him, he is just like any other four-year-old,” laughs Lisa as her precious son drags his little two-year-old sister into the living room to play with their Lego.

Over a fine lunch spread last Saturday at their Yonkers home, Adam and his family shared with the Irish Voice the joy they now feel that their son is finally living a normal life.

Lisa, 39 and John, 33, are Irish immigrants. Lisa hails from Co. Cork and John from Co. Fermanagh. The happy couple met in a local establishment a few years ago.

When they became pregnant with their first child they shared the joy and excitement every couple experiences before the arrival of their unborn. However, their world came crashing down around them when Lisa was 35 weeks was pregnant.

A scan at St. John’s Riverside Hospital in Yonkers revealed that something was seriously wrong with their precious baby.

Methodist Update for Christmas

Happy Christmas to Everyone.

Of course for many people in Ireland it will be a Christmas that will be very tight financially. With job losses, mounting debts and falling incomes many people will feel that they have little to celebrate. However Christmas is not about celebrating because all is well – it’s about celebrating the fact that in to our world God has come and he offer us himself whatever our circumstances. None of the main characters in the story of the first Christmas had much reason to celebrate. Mary and Joseph were a very young couple faced with bringing up a child in a world that was very hostile to children of doubtful parentage. Then there were the shepherds, a group of people who were much ostracised in those days and looked down on by everyone. However they all ended up celebrating and worshipping God because they realized that [read more …] “Methodist Update for Christmas”

by

Eily Buckley

Dia is mhuire diobh go leir a cairde and welcome to news report 1095 from Millstreet.
Fondest greetings dear listeners and I wish you all the very best on this nice mild morning in the run-up to Christmas.

Santa came down from the air at Carriganima on Sunday last as promised. A very large crowd gathered to see the helicopter land with the ease of a bird in Walshes field adjacent to the village. It was a joy to watch the little children, wide-eyed with amazement at the scene. A great evening followed with every little one going home with a parcel to open.
