Donal Hickey
We were in the same classroom in Millstreet Primary school
And Donal was a clever boy he never once sat on the dunce’s stool
He still lives in the old home in Inchaleigh though I live far away
From Clara hill near Millstreet Town and the fields of Claraghatlea.
He has worked in the Cork Marts for many years three decades maybe more
And he is well into his fifties now and of years near the three score
A hunting man he knows the countryside for miles around
And he could tell you where the earth of fox or badger would be found.

MonsterMAC 2012 – Time to get Fit
MonsterMAC 2012 – Millstreet Country Park – Saturday 28th April – 10 a.m.
There are three levels of race this year with the inclusion of Ireland’s shortest adventure race for all participants over age 16 eligible to enter.
And if getting fit is one of your 2012 ambitions, like most people starting out for the first time, you’ll need a plan, some support and a few targets like the MonsterMAC challenge.
BabyMAC is part of the now popular MonsterMAC Adventure Challenge www.monstermac.ie offering an ideal distance for a beginner fitness enthusiast with a 3.5km run, 16km cycle and 400m kayak around a crannog lake. You’ll need your own bike and helmet, but the kayaks and compulsory buoyancy aids are provided and many of last year’s participants couldn’t kayak or swim! And you can meet with the more experienced athletes doing the longer distances that day – i.e. BigMAC and MonsterMAC. [read more …] “MonsterMAC 2012 – Time to get Fit”

Euro Lambretta Jamboree 1998
Back 1998 the Euro Lamberetta Jamboree was held in the Green Glens, Millstreet from the 19th to the 21st of June, when hundreds of Lambretta owners from all over Europe descended on Millstreet for three days.
Cesare Battaglini was an Italian who was the most famous of all long distance Lambretta riders, riding all over the world on his bikes, and he was in Millstreet for the festival. His recent death reminded us of this event: “Most times he continued riding to each event, either on a model D or a series 2. His first Irish Euro to Millstreet, for instance, involved a 2,700 mile round trip.” – from Jetset Magazine
Here are a few photos from the Jamboree: [read more …] “Euro Lambretta Jamboree 1998”
