Magnificent Mural Now Completed

Artist Supreme from Tipperary, Neil O’Dwyer (on left) being congratulated by wonderfully dedicated Millstreet Tidy Towns Committee Members John O’Keeffe and Colman Culhane on the completion of the truly exquisite Mural at the entrance to Mill Lane (Mill View). Great credit is due to the O’Regan Family for the use of the excellent gable wall, to Tidy Towns for initiating the superb idea and for commissioning Neil – and to the Artist on bringing to reality the magnificent Mural which is already being hugely admired by countless people. A fuller feature to follow in later days. See Neil’s excellent website www.murals.ie to view his very wide-ranging masterpieces already achieved. (S.R.)

Father Joe Murphy

When I was a Schoolboy Father Joe Murphy was a young man
I recall him and his  sister and brothers Doney and the late Johnny Dan
And though of my existence he hardly would know
One cannot help but remember the great Father Joe.

Fifty five years as a priest something to celebrate
The man has been blessed in his great gift of faith
To his own higher self and to his god true
We must give him credit since credit he is due.

Well done indeed to Austin and indeed to the many superb Volunteers who have brought this splendid dream to reality. We thank William Fitzgerald for the photograph which was taken by Austin in Moldova. (S.R.)

Old Mick Connie O

He had great stories old Mick Connie O
Of the civil war days in Ireland long ago
And he was a brave rebel who fought the Black and Tan
In his better days when he was a young man

From hunting and house hauntings and miracles at Tubrid Well
He had many yarns and stories to tell
His type of person everyday one does not meet
As a storyteller he was the best of Millstreet
