The Boys Of The Fifties

I was one who spent time on the dunce’s stool
Back there by the Townpark in Millstreet Primary school
Our teachers Bill Keeffe and Dick Kiely were well past their prime
And I was a stranger to doggerel and rhyme.

The boys of the fifties now showing their years in gray
And from Millstreet some of them do live far away
And some of them living in Millstreet today
The home fields are greener some are known to say.

Rathmore’s “Pride of Place” Project – Part One

Some of the enthusiastic participants in Rathmore’s “Pride of Place” Project 2012.   Chosen as one of the towns/villages to represent Kerry in this year’s highly prestigious competition the people of Rathmore arranged a most impressive presentation for the Judges illustrating why Rathmore should be considered worthy of the All-Ireland award.   Here we view those who took part in a power-point presentation at the beginning of Tuesday, 28th August 2012 in the presence of the Judges who came from the south-east and north of Ireland.   Following welcome refreshments the Judges were taken on tour to visit the various projects throughout the area.  (S.R.)

To record the half-day event I joined Mary Dilworth and Diarmuid McCarthy as we followed the Judges and members of Kerry Co. Council and Rathmore coordinators being driven in a mini-coach by Val Moynihan.   I learned more about Rathmore in that [read more …] “Rathmore’s “Pride of Place” Project – Part One”

The view at Minor Row, Millstreet on Saturday, 8th September 2012 with the roadworks now completed following two nights of resurfacing of a section of the road. Regional report 1131 – 4th September 2012

Eily Buckley

Dia is mhuire diobh go leir a cairde and welcome to News Report 1131 from Millstreet .

Fondest greetings dear listeners and I wish you all the very best on this Lovely warm and calm Tuesday morning.

Our events at the weekend were made all the more enjoyable by the beautiful warm sunny weather. Banteer Gymkhana was held at the Green Glens on Saturday and drew horse enthusiasts from all corners of the Country.

On Sunday we had a double bill with the Cork/Kerry branch holding their horse event again at the Green Glens, coupled  with  the annual September Fair in the town. The Fair drew a marked increase in the number of trade stands and there was a real carnival atmosphere with people milling around in bright summer clothes and talking plenty of time to  chat in the lovely sunshine. There was everything from puppies to ducks and chickens to be seen. While the many horses, donkeys and ponies were confined to the Fair Field safely away from the milling crowds.

As soon as the Fair was over, the County Council cleaning lorry was out and in no time at all our streets were as clean and as neat as a pin. Many thanks to those did the work.

Very Impressive Prompt Efficient Clean-up after Sept. 2012 Horse Fair

The Millstreet Branch of Cork Co. Council carried out as usual a very efficient clean-up throughout Millstreet Town and at the Fair Field following the busy Fair Day on Sunday, 2nd Sept. 2012. While many of the visiting traders stowed their own areas it was the specialised equipment such as the pictured motorised sweeper used by the wonderfully dedicated CCC Staff  that  ensured such  a professional clean-up.   (S.R.)

By 8pm (just over one hour following the Fair) the superb tidy-up project was completed.   Liam Flynn continued to water the many floral [read more …] “Very Impressive Prompt Efficient Clean-up after Sept. 2012 Horse Fair”

Sun Shines on Annual September Horse Fair Today

Blessed with glorious sunshine Millstreet’s Annual September Horse Fair took place today, Sunday, 2nd September 2012. The wonderfully colourful standings extended further along the streets that ever before reaching the Church at West End and down to the end of Minor Row.  Here we view the busy scene at 2.35 p.m. in Main Street as photographed from the Bridge.   (S.R.)

Brendan Murphy and I travelled to the various parts of the town and the Fair Field to record this annual tradition for our website and LTV2.   We invite you to join us on our journey earlier this afternoon where we got to meet lots of cheerful people, saw one of the smallest ponies ever [read more …] “Sun Shines on Annual September Horse Fair Today”

Millstreet Celtic 1 Fairview 0

We beat Fairview 1-0 at home in the 2nd round of the St Michael’s Cup this afternoon. This was our first game of the season and it showed for the opening 15 mins of the game when we lost possession a number of times. After that we started to settle and Eric Hickey tested the keeper with a long shot on 20 mins. Hickey had another go 10 mins later only to see the keeper saving well once more. Fairview came forward a few times but the defence and keeper Piotr Oziast were alert to any danger. The 2nd half saw a big improvement in our play and we started to create a lot more chances. Donagh Murphy played a lovely ball through for Tadhg Collins in the 55th min but the defender just got back in time to make a vital block. Collins got his [read more …] “Millstreet Celtic 1 Fairview 0”
