Church Television Signal Unaffected by Digital Upgrading…For Now

Delighted to report that although we were concerned that with the ending of the analogue system on Wednesday, 24th October 2012, the change  might affect the Television signal which transmits Church Services – it now appears that the signal is unaffected and therefore the Church Signal Transmissions should continue as before.  This is the current position but it may change if extra restrictions emerge regarding the use of the analogue system which is likely to be used in other ways now that its use in national television broadcasting has changed.  We shall keep you updated if any changes to the Millstreet Church Signal occur.   (S.R.)

And the sparkling Fancy Dress ball on Friday night lived up to its name and raised some welcome funds in aid of our Canon O Donovan Centre. Well done to the Wallis Arms Hotel and the Aubane Social Club who organised it.

Next event at the Green Glens is the Annual Pony Show which raises  lots of funds every year for various charities. It will be held this Friday Saturday & Sunday October  26,27,28th .

Entries are well up on former years and a great weekend of thrills and spills is guaranteed as little tots on tiny little ponies strive to be the best.

The grand finale on Sunday night usually goes on till very late. It comprises of the graduation ceremony where teenagers advance to higher grades.  A show not to be missed.

Afternoon Tea Party, in aid of Bothar, at the home of Mary Buckley Laught, on Tuesday October 30th, from 3pm. Please support this worthy cause.

The Corkman Newspaper is out every Thursday in all the local newsagents, and contains much more than just the online version.

Connie Kelly And Morty Cronin

In my flights of fancy the memories come back
To me of when Connie Kelly the dog man ran the Millstreet dog track
And Morty Cronin the hare driver drove the lure around
May they rest in peace now in dead people’s ground.

The last men to run the Millstreet greyhound trial track to the reaper have gone
The well known and well loved characters Morty and Con
The Millstreet greyhound trial track is now a thing of the past
And only the memories of what was does last.

Millstreet Convent National School is in urgent need of three new classrooms and the Government needs to immediately deal with an application from the school for support.

Cork North West Deputy Michael Moynihan raised the issue during a special debate in the Dáil today.

He commented: “The school population of Millstreet Convent National School has shot up in recent years and the school is full to capacity. Last year there were 218 enrollments, with 244 this year, it is expected to rise even further in the coming years. There is an urgent need for a new classroom and two learning support rooms. The Board of Management of the school have applied for Capital Funding but with the new school year already well underway, this process cannot be delayed.
