Millstreet Celtic 0 Richmond 2

We lost 2-0 at home to Richmond this afternoon. We were very sloppy for the first 20 mins and gave up two good chances which forced good saves from Piotr Oziast. After that we found our feet and started creating chances. Michael Murphy set Tadhg Collins clear and his first time shot went just wide. Minutes later Brian Murphy sent a ball acorrs the box to Collins but his shot was straight at the keeper. Despite this pressure it was Richmond who took the lead on 30 mins. We responded by creating another couple of good chances before half time but couldn’t convert. The second half saw us spend the majority of the time attacking and Richmond looking to break. Collins had shot blocked early in the half before Brian Murphy and Donagh Murphy had shots off target. Collins was through on goal with 20 to go but his lobbed effort went just wide. With 10 mins to go we were awarded a penalty when Collins was bundled over in the box but Tim Kiely saw his shot saved. Richmond got a second on the break with a couple of mins to go so seal the points. Best for us on the day were Oisin Murphy and Donagh Murphy. – by Tim Kiely

Rallying Comes Home

cork20-logoMillstreet Development Group - logo 02Millstreet Development Group and Millstreet Community Council would like to announce that the Cork 20 Rally will be headquartered in Millstreet for the next two years.

Due to the initiative of some members of Millstreet Development Group and with the cooperation of Millstreet Community Council this announcement is possible. When the management of the Munster Car Club were approached about headquartering the Rally in Millstreet they gave it their full attention and eventually gave the nod to Millstreet against keen competition. In the negotiations Millstreet had one “ace” that would be hard to beat, namely the outstanding facilities at the Green Glens Arena and the enthusiasm of the Duggan family to see the rally come to Millstreet.

BILLY AND DADMillstreet is certainly no stranger to rallying. One has only to cast their minds back to the 70’s and 80’s when Billy Coleman and Gerard Buckley dominated rallying nationally and internationally. In that time Coleman won six Cork 20’s and Buckley won five.

Also Millstreet lies smack in the middle of the best rallying countryside in Ireland and in previous years it hosted stages of the Cork 20, Rally of the Lakes and Circuit of Ireland which Coleman won three times.

The rally will take place in 2013 on Oct 5th and 6th. Over the two days competitors will travel about 280km on up to 14 stages. We expect about 120 competing teams of which 12 to 15 will be W.R.C professional cars. Apart from the 5/600 members of backup teams and [read more …] “Rallying Comes Home”

Millstreet Methodist Update – March 2013

As well as our Sunday services we also hold a Bible study on a mid-week evening. We are trying to make this meeting more accessible to the wider community. So on, the evenings of Thursday 14th and 21st March, we are having meetings in a classroom at Millstreet Community School which has been kindly granted to us.
In light of this Lenten season we will be considering two key decision times in the life of our Lord. On the 14th March we will be thinking about the temptations of Christ and on the 21st March we will be considering the moment of decision at Caesarea, Philippi after which Jesus “..set his face resolutely for Jerusalem” (Luke 9:51). These key Bible passages will be considered in an imaginative and informed way making use of recent archaeological discoveries in Israel.
The group will be inter-active as always with opportunities for questions and discussion together. These meetings are open to anyone and everyone and there will be no charge.
For further information please call Laurence on 064 6631613 or 087 2749044. We look forward to seeing you there.

Eily Buckley

Dia is mhuire diobh go leir a cairde and welcome to News report 1157 from Millstreet.

Fondest greetings dear listeners and I wish you all the very best on this very pleasant, sunny, Tuesday morning.

The Annual March fair was held in the Town on Sunday. It was cold but dry as it always is for March Fair. The town was lined with colourful stalls, and there was a wide range of livestock on

display in the outskirts. Prices were down with some reaching new lows where a pony was sold for €5 while laying hens were selling at €15 each. One rooster reached new heights when he flew up on the high roof of Barrett’s house and was quickly captured on camera by Sean Radley and in no time at all, made it to the web. Take a look.

We are delighted to say that the mighty Cork 20 Rally will be based  at the Green Glens Arena this year. On October 4/5/6th.

And on to-morrow Wednesday evening, March 6th, it will be launched in our Town Square. Between 7 to 8 pm and all are welcome. Please come out in large numbers to greet this great event.
