The 500-acre Millstreet Country Park, which has been closed for maintenance since February, is to re-open on Easter Sunday, March 31st with the introduction of new cycling trails. The routes- 3km and 8km in length- range from relaxed, off-road low land trails suitable for all, to more rugged and challenging terrain.
Donie Howard of Millstreet Country Park said cycle-tourism is a growing phenomenon. “There is a dearth of self-contained cycling resorts in this country, and we feel we have hit the nail on the head with this new attraction,” he said. “We’re talking to a number of cycling clubs at the moment on the cycle routes and we also have a stock of leisure bikes for hire for those that want a casual cycle around the Park along our designated leisure trail. This form of leisure is fast, safe, fun, and puts people in direct contact with nature.”
Mr Howard added that those behind Millstreet Country Park are speaking to local accommodation providers with a view to putting together a package holidays especially for cycling enthusiasts.
Upcoming events at the Park include Millstreet Walking Festival on Saturday, April 20th and Sunday, April 21st; Monster Mac adventure challenge on Sunday, April 28th, and the Traditional Craft & Blacksmith Fair on Sunday, May 5th. He left old Duhallow before his life’s prime
And he has lived in Australia for four decades of time
But memories of what was with him does remain
And in fancy he’s back by old Clara again.
His wife and his children Aussie born and bred
And his best days behind him and old age is ahead
The boy of the fifties a grand-dad today
And Mick Kelleher from Clara Hill lives far away.

Dia is mhuire diobh go leir a cairde and welcome to News report 1159 from Milllstreet . Fondest greetings dear listeners and I wish you all the very best on this nice calm Tuesday morning.
The Jackpot was not won at the Wallis arms last night. Jackpot for next week in €8,000 the draw at Tarrants on Sunday night.
The Wallis Arms hotel was full to the brim for the launch of our Gathering Year last Friday night. Special guests were Comedian Allan Short and TV personality Matt Cooper . Son-in-law of Andrew and Mary Hickey .There was wine and finger food for the taking and Allan had the crowds in raptures with his witty ways and lighthearted comments. A very interesting film show comprised by Justin Black, gave a splendid account of all that Millstreet has to offer, and it includes clips from some of our people now living in far away places, an opportunity to wish their loved ones and Millstreet in general a very successful Gathering year.
Matt Cooper gave a very entertaining cupla focail before cutting the tape a declaring the Millstreet Gathering officially open.
It is disappointing to hear that some people missed it because they didn’t know it was on, in spite of the fact that it was widely advertised.
And in view of all the events that are to come, people would be well advised to arm themselves with the many pamphlets and leaflets that are widely available throughout the area giving full details of all that is happening here during this year of the Gathering.
RTE are in the process of making a documentary on the O Sullivan Bearra Way and their Camera Crew were in the Area during the week where they retraced the steps of this great man and he made his way through the Millstreet area.
The film will be shown is July.
“We are organising a celebration to mark the end of a sewing group which has been running for the last eight weeks. To celebrate we are having a BBQ and some music at The Men’s Shed this Friday the 22nd at 1pm. We would love if you could attend and join in the celebration as we wish to make it as much of a community day as possible.”
