THE Clara News is a magazine Millstreet people made time for more than 30 years. However, just one more issue remains on the formal announcement that it will cease publication.
After 36 great years serving the greater Millstreet area, editor Denis Reardon made the announcement on the February edition that its end is imminent.
During its existence, The Clara News has tied its communities in a remarkable time warp of changing development and modern technology.
The Clara News stood the test, once circulated, a community magazine topped the list. Something everyone saw and no matter how many opinions there were, the weekend of issue wouldn’t be completed without a read of the Clara News.
Over the years, “The Clara News showcased from the workings of community groups and the noted achievements of so many people yet those behind the magazine say its time to say goodbye.
“Some of us have come to the conclusion, that we can no lomger devote the time and the energy to produce The Clara News and we believe our time has come and its time to put away the keyboard, the pen and the stress.
“We’re fine about it, its nice to go while we still can. It was fun while it lasted but for me, after 35 years, its time to go. I’ve enjoyed it,” said editor Denis Reardon.
And from a magazine that found it way to all corners of the globe, Denis commended all associated with the magazine that over the years focused on the life and tmes of Millstreet, Ballydaly, Cullen, Kilcorney and Dromtariffe.
“I want to thank all the people who made the Clara News possible, those who supported it and they are many, too many to mention,” he said.
Our labrador of 8 years, Dougal, male castrated, sadly has gone missing from our house in Shanaknuck this Tuesday. Normally he always wers his collar with phone number but this time as he had just been groomed, his collar is missing. He does wear a silver chain, and he is microchipped.
He is a beautiful big blond lab, and we miss him terribly.
Anyone with information about his whereabouts please contact Ronan at 087-3560235
Thanks in advance !

The 500-acre Millstreet Country Park, which has been closed for maintenance since February, is to re-open on Easter Sunday, March 31st with the introduction of new cycling trails. The routes- 3km and 8km in length- range from relaxed, off-road low land trails suitable for all, to more rugged and challenging terrain.
Donie Howard of Millstreet Country Park said cycle-tourism is a growing phenomenon. “There is a dearth of self-contained cycling resorts in this country, and we feel we have hit the nail on the head with this new attraction,” he said. “We’re talking to a number of cycling clubs at the moment on the cycle routes and we also have a stock of leisure bikes for hire for those that want a casual cycle around the Park along our designated leisure trail. This form of leisure is fast, safe, fun, and puts people in direct contact with nature.”
Mr Howard added that those behind Millstreet Country Park are speaking to local accommodation providers with a view to putting together a package holidays especially for cycling enthusiasts.
Upcoming events at the Park include Millstreet Walking Festival on Saturday, April 20th and Sunday, April 21st; Monster Mac adventure challenge on Sunday, April 28th, and the Traditional Craft & Blacksmith Fair on Sunday, May 5th.
