O’Sullivan – Griffin – Duggan Family West End Millstreet 1820-1990

1905 DuggansJoe Walsh of Cahir, Co Tipperary sent us this very interesting photo and family history:

“The attached may be of interest. I think they are young Duggans c1905. Agatha (Buckley) Duggan left her pub in the west end to niece Gretta Griffin. Who died c 1992.

My great great grandfather was Jeremiah O’Sullivan of Millstreet (c1840), whose daughter Hannah married Thomas Griffin (from Mayo) and they ran a draper shop in Millstreet (1890s-1940). I think it was Corcorans later. Their daughter Mary Griffin married Jim Walsh of Cahir (where Hannah is buried), and son Tom, who stayed in Millstreet and married a Buckley – their Daughter Gretta ran a pub ‘Tanglewood’ until her death in 1992.”

Fondest greetings dear listeners and I wish you all the very best on this nice Tuesday morning.

We’re into the merry month of May and Feile na Bealtainne is in full swing all over Duhallow with events being held at all hours, both early and late. Old Customs and trades are being revived . A fine exhibition of crafts and trades was held at our Millstreet Country Park at the weekend and it drew crowds as were never seen before .

On Thursday night last Drishane Castle came alive to the voices of Our renowned Duhallow Choir followed by a world class Choir from Sweeden. Following the gala performances some wonderful refreshmants were served in the Castle Hall. It was attended by many people who were holidaying from America and they were in awe of the event, and took home with them the word, that Ireland is the place to visit.

Greenmount 2 Millstreet Celtic 5

We beat greenmount 5-2 away yesterday (5th May) to boost out chances of survival in 1A. We started poorly and were punished when they took the lead after 15 mins. We started creating chances after that and made it 1-1 in the 25th min. A Tim Kiely free kick found Tadhg Collins who finished in style with the outside if the boot. We were on top now and went ahead 10 mins later. Adrian o Connor played a pass into the feet of Collins who turned and chipped it into the path of Brian Murphy who made no mistake with the finish. They got one back 10 mins into the 2nd half and had us under pressure for another 10 mins. After 65 mins though, Murphy went on a great run up the right and was fouled out side the box. From the resulting free [read more …] “Greenmount 2 Millstreet Celtic 5”
