The death has occurred on June 5th 2013 of Catherina (Kate) Doody (née Healy) of Cloverfield, Cullen, dearly beloved wife of the late Dinny. Very peacefully, at Millstreet Community Hospital. Deeply regretted by her son Jerry, daughters Eileen and Elizabeth and adoring grandchildren Jack and Katie, sister Norah (Cotter), Leamlara, sisters-in-law, son-in-law, nephews, nieces, relatives, carers, neighbours and friends. R.I.P.
Reposing at Tarrant’s Funeral Home Millstreet, on today, Friday, from 6pm, followed by removal at 8.30pm to St. Patrick’s Church, Millstreet. Requiem Mass tomorrow, Saturday, at 11.30am. Funeral afterwards to Drishane Cemetery.

Video Countdown to the 2013 Cork 20 Rally which will be based in Millstreet-Part 4

To get us in the mood for the 2013 Cork 20 Rally which will be based in Millstreet for the first time ever this year we take a look back at footage from some previous Cork 20 Rallies that have been held over the years to see what we have in store for us in Millstreet with the arrival of this event in October.

This time we go back to the 2000 Cork 20 Rally which had some great competitors competing in it like Andrew Nesbitt, the late Frank Meagher,the legendary Austin Mchale and Ian Greer amongst others,the rally was won that year by Andrew Nesbitt in his WRC Subaru so enjoy some classic footage from what was a very entertaining event.

Over the coming few weeks/months we will feature more Cork 20 footage from years gone by in a build up to what will be a Major Event for Millstreet to be held on 4th, 5th & 6th October 2013.

Dia is mhuire diobh go leir a cairde and welcome to News Report 1170 from Millstreet. Fondest greetings dear listeners and I wish you all the very best on this lovely warm, sunny Tuesday morning. The first one in June.

The Lotto  Jackpot was not won at the Mal Passo Bar last night.

Jackpot for next week €10,200 the draw at McCarthys Bar on Sunday night.

Our Bank Holiday weekend passed off without any local fatalities or injury, Baoichas le Dia. And we were not short of outdoor pursuits. The Corpus Christi Parade through the town enjoyed fine weather  on Sunday following the 11.30 Mass, The band played before rushing off to the annual vintage Day in Upton.

The 52 seater Coach going to Knock on Sunday was full to capacity and a great day was had by all.

Out in Carriginma a Gala Fun Day was held at their National School and it was a wonderful success judging by all the praise that was allotted to it.
And in the Pub that night, Big Maggie and her band from Co. Limerick, made the rafters roar until closing time. The perfect end to a perfect day.

O’CALLAGHAN (Kilcorney) On June 3, 2013, peacefully, at Cork University Hospital, Pat John, Killeen, Kilcorney, beloved brother of the late Bobby and brother-in-law of the late Connie. Deeply regretted by his sister Mary (Linehan), nephew Fr. Teddy, nieces Marion, Dolores and Josephine, relatives, kind neighbours and friends.
Reposing at Tarrant’s Funeral Home, Millstreet on today, Wednesday, from 6pm to 7.30pm, followed by removal to St. Nicholas’ Church, Kilcorney. Requiem Mass tomorrow, Thursday, at 12 noon, followed by burial in the adjoining cemetery.

Tubrid Mass Celebrated by Fr. Kevin For Examination Students

Fr. Kevin Mulcahy celebrated the annual Mass at Tubrid Holy Well especially for Students beginning their examinations this week.  Blessed with superb weather the Mass was well attended in the beautiful setting.   We wish all Students well in their forthcoming examinations.  (S.R.)

Special Night for Fr. Con Kiely in Ballydaly Hall on 2nd June 2013

On Sunday night in the very welcoming setting of Ballydaly Hall a special night of wonderful music, singing, refreshments and chat was held in honour of the superbly inspiring Fr. Con Kiely presently at home in his beloved Ballydaly from his splendid missionary work in South America.  Here we see Fr. Con with musician supreme, Pat Joe O'Leary and with some of the many relatives and friends in attendance on Sunday night.  (S.R.)

Millstreet considered for 2013 Tourism Towns Award

Millstreet is among 45 towns and villages from across the country being considered for the 2013 Tourism Towns Award.  The award, now in its second year, is designed to recognise Irish towns and villages where the local community goes the extra mile to enhance their appeal to tourists.

The top ten “Highly Commended Tourism Towns” will be announced at the National Tidy Towns Awards later in year with the overall winner to be announced by Fáilte Ireland in November.

IRD Duhallow Training Courses

Personal Development Training Course

IRD Duhallow is now taking names for women interested in undertaking a Personal Development Training Course which will commence in September and will include the following modules: Positive versus Negative Thinking, Saying No, Developing Self – Esteem, Rights and Responsibilities, Communication Skills, Conflict Resolution, Anger Management, Listening to your Intuition, Management of Feelings. The duration of this course will be once a week for eight weeks. Places will be limited for this programme and anyone interested is asked to contact Mary Mc Hugh on 029 60633.

 

Interior Design Training Programme

IRD Duhallow is seeking to run an eight week intensive Interior Design Training Programme in September which will take participants through the design process from the ideas stage through to specifics including limitations of budget and size. Participants will develop sample boards as a visual aid and an in depth look into colour theory, styles, flooring, fabrics, lighting, wall finishes etc. It is the aim of this programme to encourage participant’s creativity and importantly how to apply this creativity to their own designs. Places will be limited for this programme and anyone interested is asked to contact Mary Mc Hugh on 029 60633.

Dancing Derek Inspires Great Enthusiasm at Physical Education Workshop

Professional Dancing Tutor, Derek Long from Co. Wicklow, has been inspiring the enthusiastic pupils of Scoil Mhuire, Millstreet BNS for the past school term with his fun-filled and excellent dance movements as part of the school's Physical Education programme.   The children truly enjoy the many creative activities and uplifting music.   LTV2 recorded sequences from this morning's workshop - this will be transmitted in the Autumn schedule.   We thank Principal Frank O'Connor and Staff as well as Derek for permitting us to share the marvellous approach to this health promoting aspect of Primary Education.  (S.R.)

Very Successful READ Initiative Project 2013 at Millstreet Community School

MIllstreet Community School First Year pupils (1Y Tutorial) who received their READ certificates from Principal, Pat Pigott,.  The READ initiative was set up jointly by the School and Cork Education Support Centre to encourage pupils to read for leisure.  An initial target of one million words through Word Millionaire  was set, but by the end of the project, well over four million words were read.  The School hopes to develop and expand this project next year.  Well done to all who were involved. Also included in the photo are Lucy McSweeeny and Mary Kate Murphy form Fifth Year and Second Year respectively who were the overall winners of the Senior School and Junior School Work Topper competition.      Also included in the photograph is Jennifer O’Donoghue, English Teacher.

Over the past two days Millstreet Primary Schools have been attending a superb Road Safety Workshop in Millstreet G.A.A. Community Hall with two wonderful Instructors - Rachel and Brian.  The very important messages of Road Safety were communicated in such a brilliant and helpful manner.  This Scheme is nationwide.  We recorded a brief sequence also for LTV2's Autumn schedule.  (S.R.)

Wednesday, 29th May 2013 was MS World Day.  The Cork North West Branch of MS Ireland celebrated the annual occasion by joining a wonderful celebration of song, music, chat, refreshments and uplifting reunions at the Market Tavern in Cork City.  (S.R.)

Funding for Blackwater Bridge approved

Failte Ireland has approved €105,750 for a new pedestrian, cycling and wheelchair access bridge at Millstreet in Co Cork at the exact location where O’Sullivan Beara crossed the River Blackwater in 1603. This is part of the larger Beara Breifne walking route project.

‘I am pleased to confirm funding for both of these projects which will further improve Ireland’s tourism facilities. The new bridge on the Beara Breifne way marks the exact spot where O’Sullivan Beara crossed the river with his followers, and the overall route is a really exciting walking project which takes in all four provinces.’

The new bridge at Millstreet is a key link in the development of the Beara Breifne Way long-distance walking route which traces the 1602 march by Donal Cam, Chieftain of the O’Sullivan Beare clan, after the [read more …] “Funding for Blackwater Bridge approved”

The death has occurred of Jerry Neville of Dromalour, Kanturk and late of Dromagh., Who passed away peacefully on 26th May at his residence. Lying in repose at O’Callaghan’s Funeral Parlour, Kanturk on Wednesday from 6 pm, followed by removal at 8 pm to St John’s Church, Dromagh. Requiem mass on Thursday at 12 noon.
