Celebrating Cork’s Red and White at The Square…Thanks to Kind Sponsor

From left - Jeremiah Keating, Tony McCaul, Denis and Eric Hickey superbly arrange a wonderful Cork colours display of several flags at The Square,Millstreet on Tuesday night (3rd Sept. 2013). It was Deputy Áine Collins, T.D. who sponsored this very impressive feature in support of Cork in next Sunday's All-Ireland Hurling Final in Croke Park. Denis's encouragement to celebrate the occasion especially as Mark Ellis is on the Cork Team - is certainly gaining momentum as we note an increasing number of new displays appearing. Regional Report 1183 – 3rd September 2013

eily1

by

Eily Buckley

Dia is mhuire diobh go leir a cairde and welcome to News Report 1183 from Millstreet.
Fondest greetings dear listeners and I wish you all the best on this beautiful warm Tuesday morning, the first one in September.

The long spell of fine weather continues to enhance the lives of our people both young and old, and with it comes an abundance of the fruits of the Earth, Baoichas le Dia. Our farmers continue to save the silage and corn and the wild berries are there for the taking. Blackberries were never so plentiful and it’s great to see so many people out picking them with their children and preserving this free gift for later uses.

In Rathmore on Sunday a monster cycle/walking event was held in memory of Paudie O Leary and  Willie Reen. Over 130 people took part, and due to it’s great success the organisers are confindent that it will grow into an annual event. Pictures are on our website and  it was all recorded on camera by LTV2 for your Winter viewing.

The Launch of the mighty Cork 20 car event was held in the Town Square outside the Wallis Arms Hotel during the week. It was attended by all the top brass of the event as well as a large crowd of locals.     At the reception which was held in the Hotel after the launch, the Millstreet development Group were lauded for the great efforts that they put in, in order to get this high level event to be centered in Millstreet’s Green Glen’s Arena.

The uplifting support for Cork and Mark is evident in West End and at Main Street as illustrated in these images. However the following comment from Millstreet's G.A.A. Denis Hickey requests as much local support as possible. Denis comments: It is exactly 40 years since Millstreet had anyone involved in All Ireland Senior Final, walking through Millstreet this morning you would hardly know that Cork were in the final. It's a great honour for the town to have someone involved in the final. People of Millstreet show some pride in our town and paint the town red and white and let's get behind Mark and The Rebels." Click on the pics. to enlarge. (S.R.)

DOS (Before Windows) Computer Sought

  • We’ve had a request from a loyal Millstreet website visitor – This person would very much appreciate it if a DOS Computer was available by anyone.   This would be a pre-1995 Computer before the Windows format.   To operate equipment which this person wishes to use it’s necessary to have a DOS (Direct Operating System I think it means) type Computer which is not as fast as the later Windows format.   If you feel you may be able to help in the provision of this Computer please get in touch with us here at the Millstreet website or email millstreetmuseum @eircom.net – Many thanks.  (S.R.)
