A Fellow From Millstreet

Wherever i go to my past follows me
And a fellow from Millstreet is all i can be
From Claraghatlea in view of Clara Hill overlooking Claramore
In sky miles far north of this southern shore
The tag of the migrant to me may apply
But my heritage to anyone i never deny
And though far south of Claraghatlea i may live my last day
The memories of what used to be with me stay
Where mine to many was a well known face [read more …] “A Fellow From Millstreet”

Regional Report 1185 – 17th September 2013

eilyby

Eily Buckley

Dia is mhuire diobh go leir a cairde and welcome to News Report 1185 from Millstreet.Fondest greetings dear listeners and I wish you all the very best on this rather wet and windy Tuesday Morning.

The weather proved a real spoilsport to many outdoor events at the weekend. On Sunday The car boot Sale organised by our Los Zarcos Football Club had to be cancelled, and the street markets in Rathmore also fell victim to the elements.

Following our great success in the Tidy towns competition our Town is going through major changes. The town Square is all cordoned off  while some fine enhancing features are being added. This project will take until November to complete and drawings of the plan are on show in many places around the town and on the website. [read more …] “Regional Report 1185 – 17th September 2013”

Very Successful Presentation at Monday’s Boherbue’s “Music Room”

Eithne O'Keeffe (on right) presented a wonderfully delightful programme of music and song at the exquisite setting of "The Music Room" in the Pearse Memorial Hall, Boherbue on Monday night while Maura Sheehan superbly coordinated the playing of the twenty melodic discs - all to an enthusiastic audience of twenty-four people. An uplifting vote of thanks was beautifully expressed. Everyone has favourites from such a programme - My two choices would be "Amour et Amitié" sung by Gilbert Becaud and "Tower of Song" sung by Leonard Cohan. Next presentation in Boherbue will take place in October 2013. Click on the images to enlarge. (S.R.)

Weather Makes Such a Difference!

People were most generous towards our church gate collection this weekend in aid of The Friends of Mallow Hospital Special Equipment Fund. Here we see Mary Kelleher and Breeda O'Leary who very kindly helped to coordinate the collection on both days. Here on Saturday night we were blessed but just look (below) at the effect the high winds and rain had on us on this morning! Weather certainly makes a big difference. The Los Zarcos Car Boot Sale was also affected by this morning's challenging weather. Later in the week we shall report on the full amount collected for the praiseworthy cause. To celebrate David Tarrant's 70th Birthday on Saturday night Family and Friends assembled at "The Bridge Bar", Millstreet.
