Dia is mhuire diobh go leir a Cairde and welcome to News Report 1193 from Millstreet. Fondest greetings dear listeners and I wish you all the best on this cold,Tuesday morning with a hint of snow and frost on the ground.

Our new Bishop Ray Browne paid an extended visit to our parish over the weekend. Said Mass in all the churches, including  Dromtarriffe. It was his first trip and people everywhere went to greet and welcome him as our New Bishop of Kerry.

He was very impressed by the beautiful Church that we have here in Millstreet and complimented the people for the way they took on the four million project in the first place. And for the way they continue to pay for it with their weekly contributions. Our Community singers sang at the Vigil Mass and Our Parish Choir attended the 11.30 Mass on Sunday.

Sean Radley was busy with his camera taking pictures of Bishop Browne  and his people, which are the website for all to see.

A Day on Clara Hill

A light cover of snow lay on the mountain and the air had a wintery chill
And the cold damp winds of Winter blew across Clara hill
As we climbed up towards the wooden cross Jerry and John Mahony, Donal Hickey and I

The Mahonys had their working dog Sandy with them and Donal had Jerry his cattle dog
And the climb up through the snow clad bracken for Schoolboys a hard old slog
The dogs bored without a fox or hare to chase suddenly commenced to fight
For Jerry a bloodless victory though not a pretty sight.

We climbed to the cross on Clara hill overlooking Millstreet Town
The uphill journey it was [read more …] “A Day on Clara Hill”

On Sunday we met with Liam Flynn who took us on tour of just some of the very challenging Toughathlon Course in the Drishane area which so impressed the many participants on Saturday's amazing Toughathlon experience. In the exquisite surroundings of the Drishane Estate Liam demonstrated just some of the serious obstacles such as the barred wire under which the participants had to crawl in the muddy ground to avoid the danger of injury. More pictures of our visit to appear later. Click on the images to enlarge. (S.R.)

Update on Celtic and Clara Toy Dolls

When speaking with Tommy Burke at Supervalu today I discovered that the Toy Factory at Pound Hill (Hegarty Street) was known as Celtic Toys 1965 – 1977.   When Tommy and his dedicated Staff took over it became known as Clara Toys (& Clothing Co.) 1978 – 2004.   We had lots of interest in our recent Bob Emprimo Doll feature.   Many thanks to Tommy for such an interesting update.    (S.R.)

Wonderfully Positive Reaction to the Return of LTV1 Macroom and LTV2 Millstreet – Repeat Programmes on Sunday Evening

It’s uplifting to note the very positive reaction to the return of Local Television.   We especially thank Bernard Crowley for dedicatedly having Programme 1 of LTV2 Millstreet available online (for a worldwide audience) as soon as the actual live television transmission in the overall Muskerry and Duhallow areas.   Many thanks to Seán Murphy for editing this week’s very interesting programme.   The religious broadcast on Sunday evening at 5.30 recalls a recent Mass in Ballyvourney.   We hope that you will join us weekly as we share the news, events, interviews and the culture of our local areas.   Thanks to Journalist, John Tarrant and to Eily Buckley for projecting LTV updates in the media – newspapers and local radio.  (S.R.)

LTV2 Millstreet:Programme 221 (Number 1 of 2013/2014 Season) Now Online

Programme 221 which will be broadcast Tonight Thursday 14 November at 10.00 is now online. You can now watch our First Programme of the New Season right here at millstreet.ie or on the LTV2 Facebook Page and this Programme will be repeated next Sunday Evening November 17 at 8.00pm

To receive reception on your Television one needs to retune analogue settings (available in menu “settings”).   When scanning is complete one will now have the new channel – either UHF Channel 30 or UHF Channel 35 (or both in certain areas of Millstreet).   All this depends on how strong the signal is in any given area.   The UHF Channel 30 signal comes from the Carriganima direction whereas the UHF Channel 35 signal comes from the western side of Millstreet Town.  This is now saved and is presently transmitting the EWTN (Religious) Channel. Millstreet Athletic Club News

Our athletes braved terrible weather conditions on Sunday last at Castlelyons to compete at the Munster Cross Country Championships.  It was a true test to their ability as the heavy rain never let up and the course was completely cover with mud making it really hard to get going.
Donal Bourke just missed out on a medal for the Cork team by finishing 7th for the team but he has qualified to run the All-Ireland Championships in Waterford in December.  We are very proud of him to be wearing the Millstreet A.C singlet at such a high level and we wish him all the best.
The club was also represented at Castlelyons by Emily Ring, Sarah Bourke, Orla Buckley, Ian Buckley, Daniel Buckley, James Buckley, Ian Buckley and Eanna O’Mahony.  While they didn’t bring home any medals they will all go forward to running in the Munster “B” Championship at Beaufort on 1st December next and we look forward to this event.
