Dia is mhuire diobh go leir a Cairde and welcome to News Report 1194 from Millstreet. Fondest greetings dear listeners and I wish you all the very best on this cold and seasonal Tuesday morning.
It’s a sad one in Millstreet as we mourn the untimely passing of Sheila Sherlock. That angelic lady who worked tirelessly for all those around her. Our sincere sympathy goes out to her daughters Anita and Catherine, her son Derry and her sister,Mary Dennehy, her employer Michael Moynighan TD, all the personel at her beloved Glen Theatre, our St.Vincent de Paul, and all the countless groups and committees that she was part of. May her gentle soul rest in Peace. May she now reap the reward in Heaven, for which she toiled.
The Mass in our Church on Thursday last in honour of Nano Nagle was beautiful. Great crowds turned out to pay homage to her. The Children from our National Schools attended and their beautiful singing and music filled the air.
On Saturday night the Vigil Mass was said for all those people of the parish who passed away in 2013. The Parish Choir attended and a great crowd came to take part.
Wallis Arms Booklet from the 1960s
Many thanks to Kevin McDermott who sent us a photo of the front page of a historic Wallis Arms Hotel booklet from the 1960s (click the photo for full size)
The hotel boasts that it can arrange Car Hire – Messages and Telegrams – Newspapers and Packed Lunches.
The Wallis Arms remained much the same until about ten years ago when the Sheehan family took over the ownership of the hotel.
A copy of the booklet is already in the archives of Millstreet Museum.
Gold Medal win for Ballydaly Boy
10 year old Joshua O’Sullivan, Ballydaly pictured with his gold medal for sparring at the recent Irish Open Taekwondo Championships held in Neptune Stadium, Cork.
This medal comes just 2 weeks after he brought home a Gold trophy for Sparring and a Bronze for Tul from the East Cork Championships, Midleton (24th Nov)

Juvenile GAA Medal Presentation
Millstreet Juvenile GAA Club will hold their medal presentation function on Friday 6th December at 7.30pm in the Wallis Arms Hotel. There are two options of tickets / menus available.
Option 1 – €6: 2 corners of sandwiches, sausages, 2 gougons and chips. This menu is ideally suited to children aged 12 and under, however if any juveniles wish to purchase a ticket for second option they can do so.
Option 2 – €12: Choice of two hot dishes – chicken curry/rice or beef stew, tea or coffee.
All Ireland Junior Football winner Michael Vaughan will present the medals on the night of function.
Tickets will be on sale this Wednesday 27th from 7 to 8pm in the GAA Hall.

Dromtariffe Parish Hall Annual Bazaar
It’s that time of year again! The Dromtariffe Parish Annual Bazaar will be held on Sunday November 24th from 2-6pm. The proceeds of which will benefit the three schools of the parish (Dromagh NS, Derrinagree NS, and Rathcoole NS).
Treat yourself to a cuppa and a piece of home baking while the children enjoy the many attractions such as ‘Stack the Cups’, ‘The Hungry Frog’ and ‘Ring Board’ to name but a few.

Banteer Ploughing Competition
Banteer Ploughing association will be holding their 49th Annual Ploughing Competition on Sunday the 1st of December 2013 at Inchidaly, Banteer.
It promises to be a great event with the Usual Competition Classes. This year we will hold once again the greatly anticipated Local Contractors Class, this class promises to bring a large crowd.
All entries from far and near are welcome. All spectators are very welcome to witness some of the countries expert plough men and women turn the sod. Competitors are asked to be in the field at 11am. The event will be signposted from Banteer Village and Roskeen. Enquiries to Joe Twomey 087 926 0852.
LTV2 Programme 222 (Number 2 of 2013/2014 Season) Now Online
Programme 222 which will be broadcast Tonight Thursday 21 November at 10.00 is now online. You can now watch our Second Programme of the New Season right here at millstreet.ie or on the LTV2 Facebook Page and this Programme will be repeated next Sunday Evening November 24 at 8.00pm
To receive reception on your Television one needs to retune analogue settings (available in menu “settings”). When scanning is complete one will now have the new channel – either UHF Channel 30 or UHF Channel 35 (or both in certain areas of Millstreet). All this depends on how strong the signal is in any given area. The UHF Channel 30 signal comes from the Carriganima direction whereas the UHF Channel 35 signal comes from the western side of Millstreet Town. The Macra year is starting up again and we in Millstreet Macra are eager to get up and running for the year ahead. We are having a club meeting this Friday, 22nd November at 8.30 in Corkery’s Bar. The meeting will be short and sweet and will be to plan for the year ahead. We will be welcoming back the familiar faces as well as welcoming our new members. On that note, if you are interested in finding out more or, better again, joining, then why not get in contact as detailed below.We are taking part in an indoor soccer competition this weekend in Macroom if anyone would like to take part (male and female teams).
