Two Millstreet girls from the Presentation National School were representing Cork at football and camogie recently. Máire Ellen O’Connor was playing in the U12 interval game at the Cork v Tipperary Munster Senior Hurling Championship game in Páirc Uí Chaoimh, while Shauna O’Sullivan played the following Sunday in Fitzgerald Stadium Killarney the following weekend, as Cork U12 took on Kerry U12 in the interval game during the Munster Quarter Final between Cork and Kerry. Well done to the girls.

This was the scene in the Square this morning at 10am when a trailer full of silage turned over and landed up on the footpath beside the Credit Union. Thankfully there was nobody or anything else underneath it, but it emphasises the dangers that are present around the silage season which will be in full swing for the next week, and will probably continue until the end of the month. So give them a wide berth and be patient as everyone is likely to get stuck behind one of them at some stage

Did you know – that due to an abandonment or objection in 1901, the Munster Quarter final Replay between Cork and Kerry was held in Millstreet, with Cork winning on a scoreline of 0-8 to 0-6. But where was the match played back then as the current Town Park was only opened in the 1950s or 60s?

There was a marked increase in the number of our people choosing to holiday at home, resulting in huge crowds at all the touristy places. Fondest greetings dear listeners and I wish you all the best on this soft and sunny Tuesday morning June 1st.
Our busy week of events went off fine here in Millstreet. The Golden Jubilee celebration in honour of Mons. Manning on Friday night was a wonderful occasion. It began with 8 o’clock Mass in our church, with over twenty priests attending. Many members of his family came the celebrate with him. The parish choir were well prepared and the pipe band greeted the large crowd as they left the church to go to the GAA Hall where many presentations were made to our beloved pastor on the occasion of his golden Jubilee and retirement. Presentations were also made to his faithful staff Mary Ann Buckley who has worked at the Presbetry since 1988 and cared for Canon Browne, Canon O Donovan, as well as Mons.Manning. Margaret Kelleher was specially honoured for her great work a sacristan, following in the steps of her late grandmother and her mother, who herself was honoured by the pope himself for her dedication to Ballydaly church. Some lovely refreshments were then served and music was laid on by our Comaltas Group. Well done to all who arranged this great event.
