LTV2 Programme 231 (Number 11 of 2014 Season) Repeat Showing Now Online
Due to the recent Bad Weather and Power Outages which affected both our Analogue Transmitters and also resulted in the delay of getting Programme 231 available on the internet a Repeat Showing of Programme 231 is now online on millstreet.ie or on the LTV2 Facebook Page or you can tune in on your TV tonight Thursday Feb 20 at 10.00pm with a repeat showing next Sunday Evening Feb 23 at 8.00pm
To receive reception one needs to retune analogue settings (available in menu “settings”). When scanning is complete one will now have the new channel – either UHF Channel 30 or UHF Channel 35 (or both in certain areas of Millstreet). All this depends on how strong the signal is in any given area. The UHF Channel 30 signal comes from the Carriganima direction whereas the UHF Channel 35 signal comes from the western side of Millstreet Town. This is now saved and is presently transmitting the EWTN (Religious) Channel.

Aftermath of Storm Darwin 2014 in Millstreet – A Tour of the Area
Some years ago we shared our Snow Tour of Millstreet following one of the coldest Winters we had ever experienced. Last Wednesday, 12th February 2014, Ireland experienced the very significant Storm Darwin with hurricane force winds. Millstreet felt the intensity of the storm between 12.00 noon and 2.00 pm approximately. On Saturday Brendan Murphy and I toured the area to witness and record the aftermath of Storm Darwin. The number of well established trees felled was quite phenomenal. These you will note on our tour which started at Clara Road where we met James L. Moynihan. We then proceeded to Station Road where Con Coakley shared a picture of himself with behind him one of the many trees across the road which blocked traffic access for hours. When we reached the Glebe Road we met with Michael Thornton working on the storm clearance. We next viewed Drishane and Cashman’s Park. We came across large trees the roots of which just left the wet ground and toppled into fields as well as across roads. We also got to record scenes near Kilmeedy and Cloghoula. Everyone with whom we chatted for an LTV2 feature all indicated that they had never experienced such severe hurricane force winds. Hopefully this storm of 2014 will not be experienced again for decades. One uplifting sign we noted on the sunny Saturday – daffodils are beginning to shoot from the ground….Spring is on the way! We hope that you will enjoy observing our Storm Tour 2014 where we share some 47 images of the weather related happening in Millstreet. Special thanks to Brendan Murphy of LTV2 Millstreet who motivated our tour and drove to the various locations. (S.R.)
Here now are the remaining 42 images of the aftermath of [read more …] “Aftermath of Storm Darwin 2014 in Millstreet – A Tour of the Area”

Regional Report 1205 – 11th February 2014
by
Eily Buckley
Dia is Mhuire diobh go leir a Cairde and welcome to News Report 1205 from Millstreet.
Fondest greetings dear listeners and I wish you all the very best on this rather cold and frosty Tuesday morning.
Today I want to send special greetings to a very lucky lady who attended the Bearra Dinner in Cork on Saturday Night. Mary Murphy from Nadd was lucky enough to have her tickets pulled from the drum no less than six times on the night and her pal Christina O Shea won twice. The Raffle was all for a good cause and raised €1,000 for Brú Columbanus, so everybody was a winner.
And this week we mourn the passing of one of our most esteemed ladies at the wonderful age of 96. The gentle Mary Cronin of the renowned paper shop in the Main St. Cronin’s Shop was like was a beehive in the old days, the only place selling the Cork Examiner the crowds flocked there every morning to get what was the only means of getting the daily news at the time. Children dropped in to get a nib for a pen or a rubber of a copybook on their way to school. Old women for a pinch of snuff which was weighed out on the brass balance scales that hung from the ceiling. But like so many others, modern methods took over and we had to move with them.
In spite of her great age, we hate to think she’s gone. May her gentle soul rest in peace.
