A wonderful, loving, gentle, husband, Dad, Grandpa, teacher and friend began a new adventure today.

Con died peacefully with family beside him. We shall all miss him along with his Irish wit, friendly smile and gems of conversation.Dearly loved by his wife of 45 years, Nancy; daughter Mary O’Connor (Robert D’Attilio); son Dr Kevin O’Connor (Pina Hare); stepsons Stephen Withers (Melissa Poole) and Dr Martin Withers.He was very proud of his 11 grandchildren: Joey and Anna D’Attilio, Nyala, Sonoma and Angel O’Connor and Jessica, Jennifer, Ben, Tyler, Summer and Matthew Withers.

Con is survived by sisters Joan Newnham of Hampshire, UK and Cathy Kedie of Bantry, Ireland, Noreen Ball of Manchester, UK and many nieces and nephews in Canada, Ireland and the UK. Great Response to Daffodil Day 2014 Coffee Morning

Coordinator,  Mary Fitzgerald, Killarney Road and her wonderfully dedicated Team were delighted with the very impressive €1,080.00 fundraised through the recent Daffodil Day 2014 Coffee Morning held at Millstreet GAA Community Hall.   Mary extends sincere thanks to all who supported this very praiseworthy cause.  (S.R.)

Where the Road Takes Me – King Mahon’s Rock – Documentary on C103 Now Until 8pm

John Greene presenter  of the ‘Where the road takes me’ programme on our local radio station C103, has recorded a feature on the local landmark “King Mahon’s Rock”, which includes amongst others interviews with Kilcorney and Millstreet people.

King Mahon’s Rock is where Brian Boru’s older brother King Mahon was killed in 975 AD, which led to Brian Boru becoming King of Munster, and later High King of Ireland. A monument is to be unveiled at the spot this year for the 1,000th anniversary of the Battle of Clontarf.

King Mahon’s Rock is located on the side of Mushera, near the highest point of the Butter Road to Cork from Millstreet.

The programme goes to air next Sunday April 6th at 7pm, on C103 FM, and can also be heard online at c103.ie

The A.G.M. of Millstreet Lotto Committee took place in the Wallis Arms Hotel on Friday, 4th April 2014.   Tremendous credit is due to the wonderfully dedicated Committee whose efforts have been of such great benefit to so many excellent Organisations in the Millstreet area.   The A.G.M. was followed by a splendid meal at the Wallis Arms presented so creatively.   Marie Twomey superbly coordinated a most enjoyable sing-song to conclude the annual occasion. Young Social Innovators @ Boherbue Comprehensive

2014-04-03 Boherbue Young Social Innovators 01Our four Transition Year ‘Young Social Innovator‘ groups travelled to City Hall in Cork recently for their regional ‘SpeakOut’ event.

A SpeakOut is an event designed to give young people a platform to talk about social issues and communicate their YSI project work in creative ways. YSI SpeakOuts are fun and they are a great opportunity for young people taking part in the programme to develop their communication and presentation skills.

LTV2 Programme 237 (Number 17 of 2014 Season) Now Online

LTV2 Millstreet Programme 237 is now online right here on millstreet.ie and on the LTV2 Facebook Page or you can tune in on your TV Screen this Thurs Evening April 3 at 10.00pm with a Repeat Showing of this Programme being aired next Sunday Evening April 6 at 8.00pm

To receive reception one needs to retune analogue settings (available in menu “settings”). When scanning is complete one will now have the new channel – either UHF Channel 30 or UHF Channel 35 (or both in certain areas of Millstreet). All this depends on how strong the signal is in any given area. The UHF Channel 30 signal comes from the Carriganima direction whereas the UHF Channel 35 signal comes from the western side of Millstreet Town. This is now saved and is presently transmitting the EWTN (Religious) Channel.

Millstreet Country Park Re-Opens This Sunday April 6th

Millstreet Country Park will kick off a new season this year with the hosting of the All Ireland Schools Orienteering Championships, which will be held in the Park on Wednesday 9th April.

The All Ireland Schools Championships are organized by Bishopstown Orienteering Club and is expected to draw large numbers of students to the Park.

In addition The Park will host the Millstreet Walking Festival on Sunday 13th April and the Monster Mac will talk place on Saturday 26th April

Adult Membership this year is €20.00  and under 16s are free.

 

New Season Begins on Sunday 6th April and opening times are Wednesday to Sunday from 11.00 am to 7.00pm.

Restaurant open Sundays, café midweek.

Dia is mhuire diobh go leir a cairde and welcome to News Report 2012 from Millstreet. Fondest greetings dear listeners and I wish you all the very best on this lovely Spring Morning.

Last Friday was Daffodil Day and collections were made in aid of  Irish Cancer Society, with outstanding results.

Collectors in the town brought in €3,370, and the Coffee morning at the GAA Hall yielded €845.

The organisers would like to say a sincere word of thanks to all those who support their efforts in any way. And our full admiration goes to the organisers themselves.

And Mother’s Day went on for the whole weekend 🙂

To-day is the First of April and April is full of things to do, the long evenings  giving more daylight hours.

McDonald’s Opening up in Millstreet

In a statement released on their website this morning, McDonald’s say that they’re opening a new outlet in Millstreet in the coming weeks. The statement read:

“We’re excited about the move to Millstreet, and look forward serving the people of North Cork who have had to travel long distances to visit our restaurants in the past”.

This is great news for the town and long suffering local children who won’t have to travel far any more to get their McMeals. McDonald’s plan to open in the Square and further details are on their Irish website: mcdonalds.ie

Deeply regretted by his sisters and brothers, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, aunts, uncle, grandnieces, grandnephews, cousins, neighbours and friends. R.I.P.
Reposing in Tarrant’s Funeral Home, Millstreet on tomorrow, Sunday evening, from 5pm with removal to St. Patrick’s Church, Millstreet, at 7pm. Requiem Mass on Monday at 11.30am. Burial afterwards to St. Mary’s Cemetery, Millstreet.
