Ed’s Songs of Praise

Ed Smith - TodayFM DJAnd thus Ed’s Indie Disco on Saturday night radio was no more 🙁

Kilcorney man Ed Smith has moved his late night music show on TodayFM to Sunday night and it’s been renamed Ed’s Songs of Praise 🙂

The show is “three hours of the finest in indie, rock, hip hop and soul” … but actually, it’s super, an interesting, and refreshing listen.

Ed has been with TodayFM since 1998 (when he was legally adopted by them!). Aside from his own show, he produces the Paul McLoone Show (Mon-Thurs), does the movie reviews for the Matt Cooper Show, and you’ll hear him as a second presenter some evenings also.

Listen to Ed’s Songs of Praise every Sunday night from 10pm to 1am, or if you miss it, you can listen back on the TodayFM Player.

Contact the show on Twitter: @edsongsofpraise, by text @ 53102, or on Facebook

Frontman Keith Flint passed away on March 4th 2019:

Keith Flint of the Prodigy – Millstreet 2005 [ref]

Genealogy: The O’Sullivans who owned Clara Mountain

Hi! My name is Richard Alexander Florczak III. I live in Hudson, Florida. My grandmother, Nora Maureen Florczak has family who lives in Millstreet, Ireland. Her maiden name is Sullivan. Her father (my great-grandfather) was Cornelius Sullivan. His family were once one of the most wealthiest families in Millstreet.

The head of the family was Daniel Sullivan (my 2nd great grandfather). His wife (2nd great grandmother) was Mary Cronin. I don’t know how many children they had. But I know a little bit about the family. My great grandfather (Daniel and Mary’s son) was Cornelius Sullivan. He went by Con to his friends. He owned a mountain called Clara Mountain. His family owned thousands of acres. One of his sisters was mentally challenged and was taken care of by the Cloistered. Cornelius gave all of his land and the Clara Mountain to the Cloistered nuns, due to them taken care of his sister all of her adult life. I know two more children and that is it. One of Con’s brothers were Jeremiah Sullivan. He was born in Millstreet, Co. Cork, Ireland. One of Con’s sisters was Johana Sullivan. She was born in 1925. She became a nun when she came to the United States. She died in 1975. [read more …] “Genealogy: The O’Sullivans who owned Clara Mountain”

In Claramore Wood

the male chaffinch
the male chaffinch

Though from where i now live many sky miles away
In fancy i am in Claramore Wood today
Listening to the wild born nesting birds whistle and sing
The workings of Nature quite an amazing thing

In the home of the rook and the silver back crow
Above the old high fields cool April winds blow
A place that i loved many Seasons ago
Many years before time itself became my foe

In Spring on the slopes of Clara just before sundown
Overlooking the fields bordering Millstreet Town
The little brown lark sings as [read more …] “In Claramore Wood”

King Mahon’s Rock

2014-04-19 Booklet for the unveiling of the monument at King Mahon's Rock - front pageThere will be an unveiling of a monument on Holy Saturday, 19th April 2014 at 2pm by the Kilcorney Historical Society.

King Mahon was the older brother of Brian Boru and King of Munster when he was assassinated in 976 on Mushera Mountain at a place traditionally marked by ‘Mahon’s Rock.’

Brian’s avenging of his brother’s killing was the opportunity for him to replace Mahon and go on to become the most famous High King of Ireland.

The event is to complement the millennium celebrations of the Battle of Clontarf.

Moira O’Brien, Director of the Clan O’Brien Foundation, will unveil the monument and deliver a talk on behalf of Lord Inchiquin, the direct descendant of Brian Boru and Head of the O’Brien Clan.

The venue is about 2 miles from the Kerrymans Table on the ‘Brandy Road’, off the Butter Road at Togher (turn off the Butter Road at the highest point on the side of Mushera)
