Perhaps the uplifting Tweet of “Evening Echo” journalist, Pádraig Hoare when referring to the reaction of Cllr. Noel Buckley at the Election Count Centre when final results emerged last night: “(Noel)…Conducted himself with outstanding class. All media present were struck by his dignity and graceful exit. A good man” … so expresses the feeling of so many who over the past ten years have got to witness Cllr. Noel as such an approachable, cheerful and supremely dedicated local Councillor of Cork Co. Council who achieved so much for Millstreet Parish. One clear example relates to his Trojan work in bringing about the reopening of Millstreet Museum and Tourist Information Centre. There were numerous other projects with which Noel has been associated – all of which have had fruitful results. We sincerely wish to express our heartfelt gratitude to both yourself Noel, Margaret and Family. We wish you every happiness, fulfilment and excellent health for the future…and hoping that your hugely regarded commitment to Millstreet will continue for many years to come. Your enormous contribution to our native parish of Millstreet has been utterly inspiring. Míle, míle buíochas. (S.R.)

Mark Ellis named at Centre Back for Cork
It’s just been announced that Millstreet hurler Mark Ellis has been picked at centre back (#6) for the Cork team that play Waterford at the weekend. It’s his championship debut, and I can’t remember when the last time (if ever) a Millstreet man played Championship hurling for Cork.
We’d like to wish Mark and the Cork team the very best next Sunday.

The Green Ribbon Walk is a month long campaign that is taking place during May to raise awareness and promote positive mental health.
As you well know, peoples reasons for living in the countyside are many and varied including being born and reared there or made a deliberate decision to move, people tend to associate living in the country with having a better environment, more space, being more relaxed and possibly being safer, while these facts to a large extend are true country life does not always live up to its perceived idyllic image and there can be many associated difficulties with [read more …] “Let’s Talk & Walk on Sunday 25th May in Newmarket”

Sharing Canvassing Comment
We thank Margaret Buckley for sharing one of the comments expressed during current canvassing for the Local Election:
“On the canvass recently, I came across complaints of dog-fouling on the pavements around the town. One person in particular was fulsome in her praise of the beauty of the town and its environs but found it off-putting to come across dog poo on the pavements. Now that the summer months are here, more people will be out exercising. This is a gentle reminder that we should all take responsibility for our dogs and their leavings. Remember, the pavements are for everybody… Kind regards, Margaret Buckley.” (S.R.)Patsy’s Style Options and Eileen’s Forever Living Products

Chloe Barrett, daughter of All Ireland Champion Sean, Megan Lehane and Linda Desmond all took part in the prestigious Amatuer Boxing All Ireland Finals which were held in Dublin on Saturday night. A victory parade, led by the pipe band, was held in their honour in Millstreet when they arrived home on Sunday evening. This was followed by a social evening at Tarrants Bar. Being members of the Rylane Boxing Club the crowd was addressed by their Manager, Dan Lane. He lauded the girls on their great success and complimented their parents and all who supported them.
