Daragh O’Riordan & Tony McDaid took a record breaking fourth consecutive win on the AceSigns Cork 20 International Rally based in Millstreet this weekend. The event which was the final round of the 2014 Clonakilty Blackpudding Irish  Tarmac Rally Championship saw O’Riordan win by a margin of over a minute from a hard charging Keith Cronin / Marshall Clarke in second place who were debuting their Citroen DS3 R5 car.

With the championship already won by the non-competing Declan & Brian Boyle in their Subaru Impreza WRC, second place was up for grabs between Monaghan siblings Sam and Josh Moffett in their Fiesta WRC and Mitsubishi Lancer respectively. Josh also had the not so small matter of the Group N championship to deal with and he was just a point ahead of Stephen McCann heading into the final round. The other two championship categories were also [read more …] “A record breaking 4 in a row for O’Riordan in the Cork ’20’”

Stormy weather this evening

2014-10-05 High winds for this eveningThe first storm of the winter is coming towards us this evening. The winds have started to pick up already, but by tonight the gusts will be very strong. Be careful and tie down anything that could fly … like trampolines 😉

Put into context, devastating storm of last February had gusts of 65mph around here,so it’s not going to be terrible.

Millstreet 1-11 Kilmurray 0-10. Match Report

2014-10-04 Millstreet v Kilmurray - programme front page-600Hopes were high amongst spectators from both sides in Macroom last night as Millstreet took on Kilmurray in the County Junior Football Championship for a place in the final in three weeks time. Kilmurray were tipped as favourites for the county even before they got out of Muskerry, while Millstreet were hoping to repeat see some of the fine form that saw them win Duhallow and the grit and determination that saw them beat Glenbower in the last round.
It was the first championship match played under the new lights in Macroom GAA pitch, and conditions were lovely – calm and a cool 8C, but the rain during the day and the muggy conditions was going to lead to slippery conditions during the game. As ever in Macroom there were lots of traffic jams and parking problems before the match, as a very large attendance from both sides came to cheer their side, and there was a real atmosphere of anticipation.
From before the match it was apparent that the Kilmurray lads were physically bigger than the Millstreet lads, but it’s something Millstreet teams have had to adapt to got years so we we figured it wouldn’t be a problem.
Kilmurray were quick out of the blocks with two nice points in the first two minutes, and we [read more …] “Millstreet 1-11 Kilmurray 0-10. Match Report”

Remembering Fr Cornelius Justice

2014-09-27 Wreath Laying for Fr Con Justice at Mount Mellary & Fr. Francis-800“Many sincere and heartfelt tributes were paid to Fr Cornelius Justice OCSO, late of Minor Row, Millstreet, at the Mount Melleray Past Pupils Reunion Dinner in Rochestown Park Hotel on Saturday evening last – 27th September. This was the first such event to be held since his death in December 2012. Earlier in the day at a very simple and very beautiful ceremony held at Mount Melleray Abbey, a wreath was laid on Fr Cornelius’ grave by a delegation of Past Pupils led by Michael Condon and Kevin McCarthy. At the same ceremony a wreath was also laid on the grave of Fr Francis Carton who succeeded Fr Cornelius as Dean of the College in 1969. While Fr Cornelius has gone to his Eternal Reward, there is no doubt that his influence is alive and well, and living in the hearts and memories of all past pupils who knew him at the college. Community Gym closed for refurbishment

Millstreet Community Council would like to announce that the Community Gym is now closed for refurbishment. With ongoing challenges to secure income to run the venture, we are very grateful for having been offered a sports grant which will assist in the upgrading of the premises and replacement of obsolete equipment in the Gym. In order to complete this work, it is clearly necessary to close the premises. We look forward to re-opening a new modernised and efficient enterprise at the very earliest opportunity. We thank you for your understanding and support in this matter.
