Dia is mhuire diobh go leir a cairde and welcome to News Report 1241 from Millstreet . Fondest greetings dear listeners and I wish you all the very best on this the first Tuesday in November. The change of time and the end of our long hot Summer has left us reaching for warmer clothes and turning up the heat.
But it remained fine at the weekend for Halloween. Little children dressed in all sorts of scary outfits went from house to house singing and dancing to earn the goody bags, before rushing off to the next place. Some places sent up sparking fireworks as the little ones gazed skywords in awe of it all.
As so we are into the Month of November, the month of the Holy Souls when our thoughts turn to prayers for our dear departed.
Special indulgences, applicable to the Holy Souls , can be gained from November 1-8 by those who visit a graveyard and praying for the dead.followed by confession and Holy Communion.
Blessing of Graves will take place at the Graves in Millstreet on Sunday next Nov 9th ,starting with the Churchyard Cemetry after 11.30 Mass ,St Mary’s at 12.45 and Drishane 1pm.
Special candles for placing on the graves, will be Blessed at all masses at the weekend.
And at the end of the month a special Mass will be said for all those who passed away in the last 12 months.
Eucharistic Adoration will be held at the usual times during the week and confessions on Saturday from 12.30 to 1pm.
The wedding of Maura Sheahan and Simon Foley took place on August 9th 2014 at St.Patrick’s Church, Millstreet, officiated by Cannon John Fitzgerald, with a reception later that day at The Malton, Killarney. Thanks to Maura for the photos which were taken by photographer Ian Cronin at her home in Cloughoula, St.Patrick’s Church, and Drishane. [see more photos]
On Tuesday 11th November at 8.00 pm at Aubane Community Centre. Therese from Lorisian will give a talk on Food Intolerance and people can be tested on the night. Refreshments will be served. All are welcome. We would also like to acknowledge that Reens Pharmacy Millstreet are sponsoring this night.
Sincere thanks was also expressed for Seán & Matthew of The Pub for making the venue so very welcoming for the occasion. Let’s observe some 24 more pictures from the uplifting occasion and we salute especially “the two kind gentlemen” from the organising committee who truly gave 150% of their time and skill to the overall inspiring project. It is quite likely that the final amount will have reached an amazing €7,500.00 – far beyond the original target of €5,000.00. All results of the various prizes will be on our website next week. All but all of the prizes have now been personally delivered by a most dedicated member of

THE KELT BANDS New Single, Millstreets Green and Gold
A tribute to Millstreets County Winning Junior Team
====
Chorus
Hon the Sraid is the roar and we’ll fight for every score,
we’ll stand beside each other come what may,
When the final whistle blows, every one of us will know,
they gave it all for Millstreets Green and Gold.
Two thousand and fourteen what a year for the Gold and Green,
We always hoped we’d see those days again,
T’was inside in Pairc Ui Rinn,
The county final we did win,
so boys it’s time to celebrate again
Chorus
Many heroes in our team like Tadgh Collins from Doneen,
Dinny Twomey and Pa Coleman evergreen,
Young Beircheart is our rock, Danny Riordan and The Brock ,
Four Murphys, Two Sheehans in our flock.
So we say to our Captain now Michael Vaughan take a bow,
Kevin Crowley always gets us through somehow,
Let the ball be big or small sure Mark Ellis catches all,
And three cheers for the panel big and small.
Chorus
That great night in Pairc Uí Rinn,
Four great subs we did bring in,
Patrick Randles, Denis Kiely, Dave McCaul,
Cathal Crowleys futures bright, sure he scored 1-1 that night
Up above us CHICO’S dancing with delight.
Chorus
Of our club we are so proud, we will sing it aloud,
remembering past heroes on the way,
Coleman, Hartnett, Dinny Long, Humphrey Kelleher
so strong and many more we can’t fit in our song
So let the bonfires all burn bright, all over ‘Sraid tonight,
Let young and old remember this great day,
Our Bainisteoirs, We salute you, William, Thomas, Donagh too
and everyone who made this dream come true .
Chorus

A big thank you to everyone who supported the Bake Sale in aid of the Marie Keating Foundation which took place in Millstreet Community School on Thursday 23rd October. So many students, parents and teachers baked for the event – a magnificent team effort. A wonderfully wide variety of cakes and buns were provided and thankfully everything baked was bought by 4pm! Thanks also to everyone who bought items, especially to members of the community who were able to call into the school in the afternoon to make a purchase and have a cup of tea. Two more words of thanks – one to the Transition Year ‘youth for justice’ group who organised the whole event and the other to Herlihy’s Centra for agreeing not to sell chocolate bars on the day in the school canteen and for donating a box of cookies to the sale. A total of €687 was raised. A fantastic achievement!
Well done to Caoimhe OLeary, Orla Buckley , Donal Bourke, who competed in Two Mile Borris In Co Tipperary
Here we share a superb brief video from Justin Black’s son, Gordon – providing magnificent coverage of the spectacular EJC2014 Parade in Millstreet during the Summer. Gordon works on such prestigious television programmes as RTÉ’s “Nationwide”. (S.R.)
It was always likely to happen. With all the new audio and photos in the last few days, we’re in danger of running out of bandwidth, and there would be no Millstreet.ie for the rest of the month.
Normally we run at about 70% of capacity, but for the last few days we have been running at 800% of normal. The audio are the biggest culprits so for now i’ll have to remove them and find somewhere else to host them. Sorry about this. michael (the admin) 🙁
Update 29th: We’ve started moving the audio hosting to soundcloud. the first ones back are the post match interviews. Listen to them here.

Dia is Mhuire diobh go leir a Cairde and welcome to News report 1240 from Millstreet. Fondest greetings dear listeners band I wish you all the best on this pretty wet but calm morning. The last one in October.
It will take a long time for the excitement of this past weekend to calm down. Our team’s victory the Co. Final of the Junior A football Championship on Saturday raised to spirits of our people from here to the farthest ends of the Earth. Judging by the numbers of messages coming into our website, we have people in every corner of the globe. And I would like our winning team and all connected with them to take a step back, pause for a moment and just think what joy and pride that they have brought to their people.
All the long hours of training, and anguish along the way has been worth it. Great of course to win, but even greater to realise what they have done to make our people out there, proud of where they came from ,and perhaps give them that extra push, to try and come home to stay.
No effort was spared on Saturday night, by our Community Council and GAA Club to give the winners a welcome home, fitting for the great team that they are.
The streets were lined with supporters as the Lorry carrying the team through the town was led by the pipe Band to the GAA Hall for a joyous gathering.
The Cup was taken on the customary tour of the pubs.
Millstreet hasn’t enjoyed a County Final Victory since 1963 which makes this all the sweeter.
Look up our website it’s full of pictures and even a short recorded account of the vital closing moments of the game.
