Mushera’s Paddy Keeffe

I only knew Mushera’s Paddy Keeffe as a very old man
He was then in the twilight of his long life span
The physical wear of time on him did show
With a cane’s assistance he was walking slow

Ireland’s best two mile hurdler when in his life’s prime
Though this is going back many decades in time
Few in Ireland could match it with him on his day
The best of Mushera Valley of him one can say [read more …] “Mushera’s Paddy Keeffe”

Hollymount NS awarded at FÍS Film Project Awards

2014-11-06 Hollymount NS awarded at FÍS AwardsHollymount NS was delighted to take part in this year’s Fís Film project.
What is the FÍS Film Project? FÍS is a successful film project currently thriving in primary schools across Ireland. The initiative encourages children to explore the medium of film in the primary classroom developing essential skills in moving-image literacy, communication, teamwork, visual arts and even numeracy … oh yes, and it’s also lots of fun! (http://www.fisfilmproject.ie/ 5th Nov 2014).

The Junior Room developed and created a film entitled ‘The Fairytale of Hollymount NS’, based on a tale about Snow White who decided to send her dwarfs and the three little pigs to see the ‘best school in Ireland!’ Every child in the class took part in the piece. The final project was submitted to Tralee Education Centre. The film was screened in Siamsa Tíre as part of Kerry Film Festival and Hollymount NS was presented with a plaque in recognition of the project.

We were delighted to be told that the film had been forwarded to Fís Film National committee for consideration. We were invited to [read more …] “Hollymount NS awarded at FÍS Film Project Awards”

Regional Report 1241 – 4th November

eily

by

Eily Buckley

Dia is mhuire diobh go leir a cairde and welcome to News Report 1241 from Millstreet . Fondest greetings dear listeners and I wish you all the very best on this the first Tuesday in November. The change of time and the end of our long hot Summer has left us reaching for warmer clothes and turning up the heat.

But it remained fine at the weekend for Halloween. Little children dressed in all sorts of scary outfits went from house to house singing and dancing to earn the goody bags, before rushing off to the next place. Some places sent up sparking fireworks as the little ones gazed skywords in awe of it all.

As so we are into the Month of November, the month of the Holy Souls when our thoughts turn to prayers for our dear departed.

Special indulgences, applicable to the Holy Souls , can be gained from November 1-8 by those who visit a graveyard and praying for the dead.followed by confession and Holy Communion.

Blessing of Graves will take place at the Graves in Millstreet on Sunday next Nov 9th ,starting with the Churchyard Cemetry after 11.30 Mass ,St Mary’s at 12.45 and Drishane 1pm.

Special candles for placing on the graves, will be Blessed at all masses at the weekend.

And at the end of the month a special Mass will be said for all those who passed away in the last 12 months.

Eucharistic Adoration will be held at the usual times during the week and confessions on Saturday from 12.30 to 1pm.

“Millstreets Green and Gold” by the Kelt

THE KELT BANDS New Single, Millstreets Green and Gold
A tribute to Millstreets County Winning Junior Team

====

Millstreet’s Green and Gold
by The Kelts

Chorus
Hon the Sraid is the roar and we’ll fight for every score,
we’ll stand beside each other come what may,
When the final whistle blows, every one of us will know,
they gave it all for Millstreets Green and Gold.

Two thousand and fourteen what a year for the Gold and Green,
We always hoped we’d see those days again,
T’was inside in Pairc Ui Rinn,
The county final we did win,
so boys it’s time to celebrate again

Chorus

Many heroes in our team like Tadgh Collins from Doneen,
Dinny Twomey and Pa Coleman evergreen,
Young Beircheart is our rock, Danny Riordan and The Brock ,
Four Murphys, Two Sheehans in our flock.

So we say to our Captain now Michael Vaughan take a bow,
Kevin Crowley always gets us through somehow,
Let the ball be big or small sure Mark Ellis catches all,
And three cheers for the panel big and small.

Chorus

That great night in Pairc Uí Rinn,
Four great subs we did bring in,
Patrick Randles, Denis Kiely, Dave McCaul,
Cathal Crowleys futures bright, sure he scored 1-1 that night
Up above us CHICO’S dancing with delight.

Chorus

Of our club we are so proud, we will sing it aloud,
remembering past heroes on the way,
Coleman, Hartnett, Dinny Long, Humphrey Kelleher
so strong and many more we can’t fit in our song
So let the bonfires all burn bright, all over ‘Sraid tonight,
Let young and old remember this great day,
Our Bainisteoirs, We salute you, William, Thomas, Donagh too
and everyone who made this dream come true .

Chorus

Thanks for supporting Bake Sale at Millstreet Community School

photo 3A big thank you to everyone who supported the Bake Sale in aid of the Marie Keating Foundation which took place in Millstreet Community School on Thursday 23rd October.  So many students, parents and teachers baked for the event – a magnificent team effort.  A wonderfully wide variety of cakes and buns were provided and thankfully everything baked was bought by 4pm!  Thanks also to everyone who bphoto 1ought items, especially to members of the community who were able to call into the school in the afternoon to make a purchase and have a cup of tea.  Two more words of thanks – one to the Transition Year ‘youth for justice’ group who organised the whole event and the other to Herlihy’s Centra for agreeing not to sell chocolate bars on the day in the school canteen and for donating a box of cookies to the sale.  A total of €687 was raised.  A fantastic achievement!
