Denny Murray Was Our Hero

The man who owned the stud stallions Rambling Boy and Rising Light
And who was widely known as the man to kill the blight
In fancy i do see Denny Murray today
On horse drawn sprayer spraying the potato gardens from here far away

Though of love he did have a few flings in his life
Denny Murray he did not have children or wife
From his late teens to his mid fifties he lived on the wild side
And beyond Ballydaly became known far and wide

It’s Referendum Day – now get out and Vote !

(photo from the Irish Independent)

Our vote at Referendums and Elections are the only way us ordinary people have to influence the direction of our country. Yet at the last referendum, only 39% of voters turned up to vote on the “Abolition of the Seanad”.

We would encourage everyone to cast their vote today on the “Marriage Referendum” and on the “Age of Presidential Candidate Referendum”, no matter whether you want to vote Yes or No. Fair play to our own Laura Cronin who works for Tourism Ireland in Amsterdam who is flying home to vote. She was profiled yesterday in a long article in Stellar Magazine, with a shorter piece in an article in the Irish Independent.

It’s hard to see anything other than a Yes vote in the Marriage Referendum, especially if younger voters turn up at the polls, but stranger things have happened. Now does anyone know how the Age of Presidential Candidates Referendum will end up? [read more …] “It’s Referendum Day – now get out and Vote !”

Regional Report 1266 – 19th May 2015

eily1

by

Eily Buckley

Dia is mhuire diobh go leir a cairde and welcome to News Report 1266 from Millstreet. Fondest greeting and I wish you all the very best of on this sunny morning following a very wet night.

There is a smile on every face in Millstreet again and on faces throughout the world really, and all because our beloved Seán Radley is back among us again. For some weeks now we’ve held our breath since it became apparent that he had serious problems with his heart. The word went ‘viral’ and people in all parts of the world prayed that he would get the right treatment and on time. And thanks be to God, the prayers worked.

Four well placed stents later and our beloved Seán is back in Millstreet, hale and hearty, where he is loved and cherished by all.

I must say a very sincere word of thanks, on behalf of us all, to our friend and fellow member of the LTV2 crew, Willie FitzGerald (Cullen) who remained Seánie’s driver  and carer during all his needs, be it in Limerick, Dublin, Killarney or Millstreet, etc. He was his right hand man all the way.

Buíochas le Dia a story with a happy ending, and we wish Seán many years of Good health.

Mary Nicholson of Main Street (née Buckley, of Carrigacooleen)

I am looking for information about my Great Grandmother, Mary Nicholson (Buckley). I understand that she was born in 1865/6, and prior to marrying John Nicholson in 1887/1888 lived in Carrigacooleen, Millstreet. They appear in the 1901 and 1911 Census at 9 Main Street.

Her son, and my Grand Father, Patrick Nicholson, appears in the 1901 Census as a ‘visitor’ in the home of Patrick and ‘Nanno’ (Nora) Buckley in Carrigacooleen. Their son, Denis Buckley, may have been a witness at the marriage of John Nicholson and Mary Buckley. In the 1911 Census( England) Patrick Nicholson appears as the nephew of John and Abina Buckley, in London. John Nicholson died, I understand in 1940.

I would very much appreciate any information regarding where he may be buried. I do not have any information with regards when Mary Buckley died, or where she is buried.

Kind Regards, Declan <email>
