Regional Report 1275 – 21st July 2015

eily1

by

Eily Buckley

Dia is mhuire diobh go leir a cairde and welcome to news report 1275 from Millstreet.  Fondest greetings dear listeners and I wish you all the very best on this calm morning following a wet night.

An important Community Council Meeting will b e held at the Wallis Arms to-night starting at 9.  All members please attend. The Community Council are at the moment engaged in upgrading the Youth Centre especially the Adult Gym there. Ambitious plans are in the pipeline and to-nights meeting will be mainly about this welcome development.

Another welcome development will be the placing of the bridge over the Blackwater at Dooneen. Many years of negotiations have gone into this project, and local lobbying  playing a big part.

The contract for the Bridge is gone out to tender, and  the crossing of the Blackwater at this point, marks one of the last pieces of the jig-saw on the mighty Bearra/Brefni Way

Local land owners on both sides of the river at this point, namely Michael and Marian O Sullivan and Francis and Eileen O Riordan  have to be lauded for allowing their land to be used for this important development.

Sliabh Luachra Summer School 2015 at Rockchapel 3-8 August

The Sliabh Luachra Summer School will take in Bruach Na Carraige Rockchapel from the 3rd to 8th August 2015.

The traditional music master classes which will be directed by Nicholas McAuliffe who is a leading authority on traditional music will focus on the recently discovered manuscripts in the National Traditional Music Archives in Dublin which came from Dan Curtin of Stagmount, Rockchapel and date back to the 1850, and manuscripts discovered in Elsberry,Missouri, in the United States and were compiled by Dave Dan Curtin and by David Leahy from Seocandgloss Mountcollins with music dating back to the 1700s.
These manuscripts give a historical glimpse of an older layer of Sliabh Luachra music that predates the polkas and slides that now characterize the area. They also illustrate the richness of the music at the time of the compiling of the manuscripts, and the contribution made by the area to the music of Sliabh Luachra over the last 200 years.

Eircode Community Outreach Programme

We thank  Lisa Cashman, Outreach Champion, Cork West, West Cork Development Partnership
West Cork Technology Park, Clonakilty, West Cork….for the following insight into Eircode.
 (S.R.)

Re: Eircode Community Outreach Programme

Dear all,

You will probably hear or read reports that Eircode was launched yesterday or perhaps you saw the TV advert https://player.vimeo.com/video/132084090.

People all over County Cork will receive letters between Wednesday 15th July to Monday 20th July to notify them of the Eircode for their address and advice on how they can use it.

The introduction of Eircode will bring numerous benefits. Not only will it make the delivery of services and goods to households easier, but in the case of a medical emergency, being able to accurately and quickly identify an address can save valuable minutes. Remember, addresses will not be changing – an Eircode will simply be added to current addresses.

As you know from my previous communications, I work with West Cork Development Partnership as ‘Outreach Champion’ for Cork West area. The programme is co-ordinated by The Wheel, working closely with Irish Rural Link. We’re delighted that hundreds of people from organisations throughout Cork County have got on board and are helping to reach thousands of people who might otherwise get left behind. We’ve all been busy, meeting the target group on a one-to-one or one-to-few basis to tell them about Eircode, to answer their questions and to reassure them. It’s been a tremendous community effort.
