Second at the Bodhrán

A huge congratulations must go to James Linehan of Millstreet Comhaltas Branch, who has finished second in the U18 Bodhrán at Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann in Sligo yesterday (Saturday), and much praise must also go to the others from Sráid that competed today.

… And of course, the very best of luck too to those whose turn it is over the weekend.

Update (Saturday): Contrats to Patrick O’Callaghan, whose U18 Mixed Set came away with top honours (dancing with Kilcummin). Patrick won gold last year also in the U18 Half set

Sincere congratulations to our wonderful Breton Friends from Pommerit le Vicomte - Josiane & Yves Allain - whose truly superb garden has recently come first in a very prestigious garden competition.  I had the privilege of staying in the splendidly welcoming home of Josiane and Yves when our Twinning Group paid an official visit to Brittany some four years ago.   Jardin magnifique! Families set to enjoy Coachford Festival

2015-08-11 Coachford Festival - PosterCoachford Autumn Festival will take place this year from Thursday August 13th to Sunday August 16th. The family friendly festival organised by Broomhill Vintage Club, is now in its sixth year and has to date raised over €34,000 for Suicide Aware and local charities while at the same time providing a superb holiday festival for families. The festival has a huge number of events over the four days which will appeal to all ages. According to Tadgh Murphy, Chairman of the Vintage club “ Our festival has gone from strength to strength over the last few years. We have been very fortunate to have some very generous sponsors and supporters and without their help this festival would be impossible to stage”.

Bat Walk and Talk

There will be a Bat walk and talk in Millstreet Country Park with guest speaker and bat specialist Conor Kelleher on Thursday the 13th of August at 7.30pm. The talk will be held in the Visitor Centre and walk leaves from visitor centre. This talk is aimed at adults, but children accompanied by adults are welcome.

Millstreet International Annual Horse Show takes place at exquisite Green Glens Arena from 11th to 16th August 2015. The Duggan Family and their wonderfully dedicated team are welcoming ever increasing number of equestrian enthusiasts with an awe-inspiring 6,000 entries which have been processed by the Office Team. The 1,300 on-site stables will be fully occupied with a lengthy waiting list in operation while electric hook-up will be supplied to over 200 caravans and horse-boxes during the week.  The Competition Schedule features a hugely impressive 110 Classes running over 6 days with a total prize fund of almost €200,000.00.   The €50,000.00 Millstreet Grand Prix on Sunday, 16th August is the main highlight.  Every success to All on Summer Show Week in Sráid a’Mhuilinn.   And of course a further major equestrian three-day event – the Horse Trials – takes place at the end of August. 1914 Webley Revolver with holster made by PJ Murphy An excellent example of an early Mark I Webley service revolver with patent marks, proof marks and wide arrow markings. Complete with leather holster made by P. J. Murphy, MillStreet, Cork. Date marked 1914.

These sold at Whyte’s Irish Art Auction House for a price of €700 on 24th September 2011.

Death Notice: Ted Kelleher, formerly of Cahirdowney

The death has occurred of Timothy (Ted) Kelleher, Marble Hall Gardens, Ballinlough and late of Cahirdowney, Millstreet. Peacefully, in St Joseph’s Community Nursing Unit, St Finbarr’s Hospital. Beloved husband of Christina (nee O’Brien) and loving father of Michael, Mary and Liam. Sadly missed by his loving family, daughter in law Rachel, granddaughters Aoife and Isobel, brother, sisters, relatives and friends. May he rest in peace.
Reposing at Sullivan’s Funeral Home, Turners Cross. Removal on Monday (10th) at 6.30pm to Church of Our Lady of Lourdes, Ballinlough. Requiem Mass Tuesday (11th) at 11am. Funeral afterwards to St Mary’s Cemetery, Millstreet.

Jerry Lehane Introduces the Historic 1915 Pádraig Pearse Poster

Jerry Lehane delivered the wonderfully historic 1915 Poster to my home this morning.  The hugely interesting item which has been carefully researched by Noreen Meaney and the dedicated Coordinating Committee and so creatively reproduced by Declan Crowley of Milltech, is a true gem and will receive pride of place at Millstreet Museum.  It's now only a fortnight away from the much anticipated unveiling of the very special commemorative plaque at Corkery's Bar in West End, Millstreet on Sat. 22nd August 2015 after Evening Mass. Our annual church gate collection is our principal source of income to maintain both our Museum/Tourist Information Centre at Carnegie Hall and our Millstreet.ie Website.   Your support at our church gate collection in Millstreet this weekend (8th/9th August 2015) would be greatly appreciated so as to assist us to continue these community based efforts.   We thank you in anticipation of such generosity.  (S.R.)
