Daughter of Siobhán and the late Conchubhar Ó hÉalaithe – Nóirín – was truly outstanding in her very moving and meaningful reading of the Proclamation. Con Foley in historic uniform raised the flag in such a professional manner. So many more wonderful participants were involved. Drama: Widow’s Paradise
Drama at the Glen Theatre Banteer
Widow’s Paradise
Written by Sam Cree and directed by Tadhg O Keeffe
This farcical comedy is set in the 70’s and the action takes place in a seaside caravan with five ladies embarking on a “strictly women only” holiday. A case of mistaken caravan identity sends the Widows’ Paradise into disarray with the subsequent arrival of no nonsense Alpha-male Harry his dim-witted sidekick Ernie and Harry’s handsome young son Alan.
Add a couple of surprise visitors in the form of Willie and Farmer John and you have what can only be described as hysterical chaos.
What was supposed to be a scene of peace and tranquillity turns into a riotous clash of the sexes, each of the ten characters with his/her own story to tell!.
This hilarious comedy will sure to have you splitting your sides! Come along and join us if your up for a good laugh!
Easter Monday 28th March at 8.30pm. Booking 029 – 56239
Also, at the Glen Theatre: Patrick O Sullivan and Guests on Friday 1st April, and Red Hurley on Sunday 3rd April

If I can change one person’s mind with Alex’s story, then that would be enough
Nicole Ryan spoke to Ryan Tubridy this morning on RTÉ Radio 1, on the death of her brother Alex, and dealing with the aftermath. She wants to go out and share his story with others, in schools and colleges to warn young people about the dangers of drug use and “give kids the information they need to not make the same mistake my brother did”, starting in Ireland, and moving across Europe and onto Asia.
Listen to it below, or click here for more information on her campaign.

Brother Vincent Corkery passes away
The former director of St Michael’s Institution (SMI), (Ipoh, Perak, Malaysia), Datuk Brother Vincent Corkery passed away today at Fatimah Hospital here. He breathed his last at 12.18pm. He was 87 years old.
His niece, Noreen Stanley said Brother Vincent had been admitted since March 2 after complaining of breathing difficulties. “I flew from Ireland and reached here on Friday after my family was informed of his deteriorating condition,” she said when met at the hospital here, adding that she would be representing the family at the bedside.
Brother Vincent was a former director of the institution during his 30 years at the school, and had celebrated his 70th year as a La Salle Brother in 2015.
Born in Cork, Ireland in November 1928, Brother Vincent first joined the La Salle religious congregation in 1942 and took his first vows as a Brother in 1945. After teaching in Singapore and continuing his education in Ireland, Brother Vincent was posted to St Michael’s Institution in Ipoh in 1957 where taught English, Literature, and History, as well as serving as the Brother Sub-Director. In 1971, he was appointed as director, a post which he held until 1976. As director, he was feted for doing away with academic ability-based streaming and introducing mixed ability classes instead. Many congratulatons to our own Joanne O’Riordan who did us proud on St Patrick’s Day as Grand Marshall of the mighty Dublin Parade.
The year is moving on the clocks go forward this weekend, and we seem to go from one exciting event to another. This being Centenery Year I suppose adds to the workload of keeping everything in vogue.
The weather in recent times added to the enjoyment of the St. Patrick’s Day Parades. The people of Carriganima had their’s on Sunday (March 20) and as always they didn’t disappoint. It was very well supported and like all such events, it draws communities together. The planning involving many meetings beforehand and the event on the day, which requires every hand on deck to get it right. Many congratulations Sean and Matt at the pub and all their helpers on a wonderful job well done.
This is Holy Week and Church Services will get top priority in the run-up to Easter Sunday, which is regarded in many countries as being more important than Christmas itself.
On Wednesday we will have the Penitential Rite in our Church, which proved so popular last time. It will be held from 7.30 to 8.30 .Visiting priests will be available for Confessions and the Blessed Sacrement will be exposed.
