Thanks for supporting for Fairtrade MS Ireland fundraisers
The Millstreet Community School Transition Year Development Education Committee have now successfully completed two fundraising events to raise money for MS Ireland. Both events featured cakes and cookies that they themselves baked using Fairtrade ingredients such as sugar, coffee, and cocoa.
On Tuesday 28th February they hosted a coffee morning in the Parish Centre, which raised €506. On Tuesday 28th March they held a bake sale in Millstreet Community School canteen. They made €170 from this. So a grand total of €676 was raised. Thanks to everyone who supported these initiatives in any way. The students involved in running both events are to be commended on their efforts.
Urgent accommodation request for retreat team o/n Wed. 29th March
The 1st students at Millstreet Community School have a retreat on Thursday 30th March 2017 in Millstreet Parish Centre. The retreat will be run by NET ministries, who are based in Co. Donegal and this will be the tenth year they’ve been to Millstreet.
Thanks to those who have already volunteered to host members of the retreat team. All seven girls (18-25 year olds) have been accommodated.
We have not managed to find acommodation for the five boys (18-25 year olds) yet. If anyone was in a position to host them that would be great. They need to be accommodated in a pair and a group of three.
If there are families able to give them accommodation and a simple meal on the evening of Wednesday 29th March (they’ll be arriving in Millstreet at about 6.30pm), and breakfast on Thursday 30th March, that would be great. They need to be back at the Parish Centre for between 8.00am or 8.15am on the Thursday so they can get ready for the retreat. If you can help please contact Millstreet Community School on 029 70087 as soon as possible. Thank you in advance for your help.

Eily’s Report – 28th March
Dia is mhuire diobh go leir a cairde and welcome to my weekly Report.
Our weather lived up to its name in earnest this past week. The opening days brought a trinkling of snow on the fields and muct heavier in the far away hills. And the second half of the week was semi-tropical with hot sun giving us all a glow of warmth and good cheer. But the dry weather caused some forest fores in the area. On Sunday nght the night skys were lit up in flaming red as mountain sides blazed. Our Fire brigade was out to control fires which threatened forests in some places. Thankfully due to their great efforts, no serious damage was reported.
Mothers Day was celebrated like never before, with brilliant sunshine to allow outdoor parties, some on the beach and an air of wellbeing all around. Baoichas le Dia.

“Where the Road Takes Me” Sunday on C103 at 7pm
We thank Presenter supreme, John Greene, for the following advance information on this week’s programme. (S.R.)
This week on Where the road takes me, we continue and conclude the story of Cork City Football Club. Rescued from examinership by their supporters in 2010, the club has since become a model of success both on and off the field. The manner of their rescue has since been an inspiration to much bigger clubs who find themselves in a similar situation. Next month representatives from Schalke-Zero-4 , one of the biggest clubs in Europe arrive in Cork to learn from Cork City’s supporter’s trust.
This week…………..
Vice Chairman of the board of Foras Cork City speaks about the ‘Friday night experience’ at Turners Cross, where huge emphasis is placed on accommodating families.
Former board member Niamh o’Mahony tells us about her role as CEO of ‘Supporters Direct Europe’, which helps fans to set up democratic co-operatives to gain influence in the running and ownership of their own clubs.
Striker Seanie Maguire looks back on his most memorable goal in the FAI Cup Final against Dundalk last year in the Aviva Stadium.

Death Notice: Maurice O’Keeffe – Legendary Musician of Sliabh Luachra
We share “The Maine Valley Post” feature on the recent sad departure to his Eternal Rest of the legendary Gentleman and Musician Supreme – Maurice O’Keeffe. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílis. (S.R.)
The death has occurred of Maurice O’Keeffe, Musician, Glounreigh, Kiskeam, Cork. Maurice passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family in his 98th year.Beloved husband of the late Peg and father of the late Jeremiah. Deeply regretted by his sons: Francis, Denjoe and Christy, daughters: Maura, Sheila, Eileen and Margaret, brother John, sister Julie, daughters-in-law, sons-in-law, brother-in-law Dermot, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nephews, nieces, relatives, neighbours and his many friends.
May He Rest In Peace.
Maurice achieved a degree of fame in the late 1960s when, as a Cork County Council road ganger he was filmed playing the fiddle on the side of the road during a tea break with his men. Of more sustainable fame for Maurice though was his undoubted gift for the music of his locality and his generosity with the dispersal of the many tunes he had gathered and learned. Millstreet Féile Cheoil 2017
VOLUNTEERS URGENTLY REQUIRED
As we are a community organisation, we rely on your help to run these events. We fully appreciate all our volunteers and the more people who come on board, the less we all have to do. This year we are looking for more competition clerks to come on board – your job would be to help the judge with the smooth running of the competition. Or, you may want to stay out of the limelight – that’s OK too. You can help with venue set up and tidy up after, cleaning trophies or with our catering team.
