Bealtaine Festival Celebrated on “Round the Fireside” at 10 Tonight

Two C103 programmes were recently recorded in Freemount Heritage Centre for Jimmy Reidy’s “Round the Fireside” programme promoting Bealtaine Festival 2019 and featuring many local voices.   The second programme will be broadcast at 10pm this Monday  13th May on C103.  Happy Listening!  (S.R.)

Accessing Internet Radio Broadcasts Guidelines

To access Internet Radio Broadcasts one can do so on Computer, iPad, iPhone and on actual Internet Radio (which permits the listening to thousands of global radio stations).   The easiest method to listen to Internet Radio is on an actual Internet Radio unit which requires broadband connection.  However, in recent days many Radio Stations on Internet Radio units have disappeared from the listings including Cork Music Station.  Hopefully this problem will soon be resolved and the missing Radio Stations restored.  In the meantime the simplest way (as always) on your Computer, iPad or iPhone to listen to Cork Music Station is to click here on the blue highlighted link which opens .  Then simply click the Play Arrow and there it is – Music, songs 24/7 and chat with live DJs at specific times!  Happy Listening on Cork Music Station.  (S.R.)

Cullen’s William Fitzgerald takes over the radio controls in the ultra-modern Midwest Radio Station Studio in Co. Mayo a few years ago.  Also included is Broadcaster/Journalist supreme – Michael Commins who transmits his own Radio Show on Sunday and Wednesday nights on .
Cork Music Station….. Happy Listening from wherever in the world you tune in!

Eily’s Report – 7th May

Dia is Mhuire díobh go léir a chairde, and welcome to my report.

Our weekend kicked off with a wonderful art exhibition, in honour of Feile na Bealtaine.  Organised by our Active Retired Group.  Maura Walshe of IRD Duhallow came to officially open the event. And the quality of the exhibits was tantamount to the great talents that are lying in people, until they are given the help to develop them. And Ms. Walshe had nothing but praise for the group leaders for their work not just in art but for their many other fulfilling  and worthwhile activities. The May Bank Holiday weekend was something of a record-breaker. The long hours of nonstop sunshine gave everybody the urge to make the most of their time off, in the wide open spaces.

Louisville’s 145th Annual World Famous Kentucky Derby Race Today

Update from Patrick W. O’Leary regarding the result of Saturday’s Kentucky Derby Race:

  •  What a finish ! The horse that crossed the finish line first was disqualified. That is the first time in the history of the Derby where the winner was disqualified. The horse that came in second was declared the winner.
  •  The horse that was declared the winner was a long shot. If you bet $2 to win you won $132!
The track attendance was 150,729 people. That is the entire population of County Wexford!
Sincere thanks Patrick for this wonderfully comprehensive update on the event.  (S.R.)

Today the world famous two minute Kentucky Derby takes place as the culmination of a two week Festival.  Post time for the Kentucky Derby 2019 is 6:46 p.m. ET in USA.  under the legendary twin spires. With such a wide-open field entering the starting gate for the 145th running of this world-famous race, it promises to be supremely exciting.   Here in Millstreet we also celebrate the annual event thanks to the O’Leary Family of Louisville, Kentucky Eileen sent us the Official Programme and the famous Pegasus Pins which we are proudly wearing today.  Michael sent us a superbly colourful book relating to the very interesting history of the 145 year annual event while Patrick keeps us fully updated on the Derby itself having shared tee-shirts and socks with the official logo.  A very special word of sincere thanks to Kathy and Mary Ann – Patrick W. O’Leary’s sisters.  Here we share images of the various items as well as James Wickham of Minnesota and New York (on holidays at his ancestral home near Ballydaly) with yours truly displaying our Kentucky Derby Day 2019 memorabilia at Cinnamon Restaurant this Saturday morning – 4th May 2019.  We thank Anna O’Shea for assisting in the photography.  Click on the images to enlarge.  (S.R.)
