Community Services

On July 22nd 2011, in the Library of Millstreet Community School, at the invitation of the Millstreet Community Directory Group, Áine Collins TD launched the first Directory of Community Services for everyone in Millstreet.

This Directory has been put together as a handy reference to useful community services that are available for people living in and around Millstreet. It is the result of a voluntary effort on behalf of a number of Millstreet residents to document the broad range of services (statutory and community / voluntary) that people might need from time to time.
The content focuses primarily on services available in the general Millstreet area. However where essential or useful services are not available locally, details have been included for the nearest available
service.

Distributed as a leaflet, we have published the contents below in a simple text format for everyone to view:

Introduction
Welcome to the Millstreet Community Directory 2011.
This Directory has been put together as a handy reference to useful
community services that are available for people living in and around
Millstreet. It is the result of a voluntary effort on behalf of a number of
Millstreet residents to document the broad range of services (statutory
and community / voluntary) that people might need from time to time.
The content focuses primarily on services available in the general
Millstreet area. However where essential or useful services are not
available locally, details have been included for the nearest available
service.
Every effort has been made to ensure the contents here are accurate and
up-to-date as at time of publication. The Directory has been put together
in good faith but the group that has done this work cannot guarantee its
accuracy, nor can they take responsibility for any errors or omissions. It
is the intention that any updates or additions to this Directory will be
made available for download on www.millstreet.ie.
Thanks are due to a number of people and organisations who have
supported this initiative. Nora O’Connell was the driving force behind
the publication and did great work in sourcing and compiling the
information. It is important also to acknowledge the work of Elaine
Hooper, Ciarán Casey, Stephen Kelly, Rita Buckley, Hannelie O’Connor
and Margaret Crean. Thanks are due to the staff and pupils namely
Muireann O’Keeffe and Alison Buicke (Transition Year students) of
Millstreet Community School who worked diligently to put together a
guide map of services in the area. We acknowledge the assistance of
Geraldine Dennehy and Colman Culhane, photographers, in supplying
photographs of the Millstreet area to enhance this directory. Funding and
support for the publication have been provided by North & East Cork
County Citizens Information Service, by the Community Work
Department of the HSE, Millstreet Community Council and Millstreet
Adult Learning Centre Co. Cork V.E.C.
The Millstreet Community Directory Group hope you will find this a
useful resource in knowing what services are available and how to access
them.

  1. Hello Millstreet….. I live in Manchester and am a member of a facebook “Missing in Manchester” site. We assist the Greater Manchester Police in trying to trace missing people in the Lancashire area and we have members all over the UK. We have in recent weeks traced 2 missing 12 year old sisters, a 22 year old man and unfortunately a 22 year old man who was found dead in a canal. We are a valuable contribution to society and distance is no object, we recently also traced an elderly man from Dublin who after missing for a long period, he was found in Manchester.
I wonder if you in Cork have the same scheme….

  2. Dear Tom

That’s a very tragic story that happen in Manchester.
I also have family in England and am worried now.

Would there be any hope in location the names of these people
who were and found and the young man who lost his life in the canal.

Hoping you will respond. Thank You.

    Kind Regards
    Bridget Foley
