  1. Hello good morning . This is my first post to the Millstreet Group. I’m hoping someone can help me. I’m trying to track down a family of Hickey who I know lived in Inches, Millstreet in the 1930s and 1940s. I have a birth certificate for Patrick Joseph Hickey born 1944 at Inches. He emigrated and died without any family in Victoria, Australia. His parents were John Jos. Hickey and Margaret Hickey {formally O’Sullivan} Basically Im trying to make contact with any siblings of Patrick Joseph, or if all now deceased, then their children ,his nephews and nieces. Many, many thanks for any advice or guidence you can give me.

    1. Hi Robert, I’m sorry to hear that Pat Joe passed away RIP. I lived two doors away from Pat Joe as a child in Inches,Rathmore. I tracked him down in Melbourne in 1990 when I lived there and was delighted to meet up with him and
reminisce. I lost contact with him afterwards. I’m travelling to Melbourne again in April to visit my daughters and I’d love to visit his grave if it’s possible to find out where he’s buried. Thank you for any help in this regard. Sincerely, Michael O’Donoghue.

    1. Many thanks Denis. That seems to make sense. There is a daughter called Evelyn. Would that address you refer to be the original family home in Inches? Would the right address be Inches, Millsteet, Cork? Many thanks again Denis.

  2. The sibllings of the late Patrick Hickey were/are . the late Alexander [died 1990 andburied in Rathmore with his father and mother], sisters Evelyn, Mary Frances, Kathleen and Ann. Unfortunately I only have the husbands Ist names: Tom, William, Holger and Michael. {This is from the death notice }

    1. Hi. Robert, Evelyn’s late husbands name was Tom Egan and the address is ” Inches Rathmore po. Co. Cork.

      1. Hello Denis,
I am the younger sister of Patrick .
Thank you for forwarding to Robert, the required address of my sister, Evelyn, residing
at Inches, Rathmore. In the meantime, Robert has contacted us about our Patrick.
We appreciate your help in this matter.
        Thank you, Best regards, Ann

  3. Hello, I don’t know if you can help me in finding information about my family who lived in Main Street, Millstreet. My 1x great-grandmother was Marie Dennehy. Her sisters were Agnes, Helena/Lena, and Margaret. The parents are listed as Patrick G Dennehy and Mary Murphy.

In the wedding certificate for Patrick and Mary. It lists the parents of Patrick as Garrett Dennehy and Ellena Buckley from Cloughboula More.

Patrick G Dennehy died in 1914 and it says he is buried in Millstreet Graveyard according to an obituary I found.

The house they lived in on Main Street was at the entrance to Mill Lane and was knocked down to build a road into Mill Lane.

I think Helena Dennehy who also went by the name Lena, was the post mistress in Millstreet. She died in 1968.

If you have any information I would truly appreciate it

  4. My great-grandaunt, Elizabeth (Lizzie) Ford(e) of Knocknaloman, Caherbarnagh married Daniel O’Connor / Connor(s) 13 February 1899 (Roman Catholic Chapel of Rathmore, Killarney, Kerry).

Elizabeth’s sister Mary, was my great-grandmother (who married a Dineen and moved to South Wales, UK). The Forde family were from Inches / Rathduane.

Does anyone recognise this family or have any more information please?

    Many thanks

    Beth

  5. I am trying to put together my family’s ancestral history, and whilst I have some information in regards to my father (he was of Yugoslav decent), I have little to no knowledge of Mum’s family history.

I have never been to Ireland, but one day (soon if possible) hope to do so, as I would like to see where my relatives once lived. I am hoping to put a bit life/colour into their background.

My mother, Kathleen Mary Butun (nee Devitt) was born in Kalgoorlie, Western Australia on 16 January 1916.

Her parents were Martin and Hannah Devitt (nee Dinneen). After emigrating to Australia (together or separately I do not know), they were married in Kalgoorlie in 1908. Both were Catholics.

Martin Devitt was born in Lickeen, Kilfenora on 7 April 1867, and was baptised in Ennistymon, Clare in 8 April 1867.

Hannah Dinneen was born in Caherbarnagh, Dishane, Millstreet, Cork on 9 May 1875.

an anyone add any background information or colour to their story, or perhaps point me in the right direction to look ?

  7. I am an ancestor of the McCarthy family from Millstreet. They owned Millstreet Bar before it was sold to the current owner. If there are other
Mc Carthy family members that would like to reach out to me and that we can discuss the family there I would love to talk to you about the McCarthy’s that came.to the United States. You can reach me at <email>

  8. I’m searching for records of my great grandparents Michael O’Connor and Abina O’Keefe and I believe that Cullen Milllstreet parish has their baptismal and marriage certificates.
This would be in the latter part of the 1800s and I’ll try to gather more information.  I know they migrated to New York right after marriage.
Thanks so much and would love to visit today or tomorrow.  November 2 or 3rd as we’re close by.
    Many thanks for your help.
    Blessings,  Kristine and Joseph Currid

    1. Marriage year is most likely 1886, but there is no trace of it online. The marriage register book for that year is not online either, so may not be available.

  9. Good evening.
I’m just starting my search for family and have discovered my paternal grandfather James Pacey was buried in Keel aged 31 in 1941. Married to a Julia Dowd who appears to have given birth to my father also James in Kensington London 1935. All a bit confusing and I can’t find any trace of them…so far ??
