We beat Rathcoole A 6-0 in our County Cup local derby in Millstreet today. Both teams were slow to get going but we struck first in the 15th minute. Paul Dawson picked the ball up on the left wing and passed inside to Barry Lawlor who finished well. This was the start of a 10 min spell that put us firmly in the driving seat as 5 mins later Lawlor picked out Chris Cleary who tucked away the second. And just a few mins later it was 3. Cleary got free in the box and laid the ball back to the onrushing Danny O Riordan who was brought down for a penalty which Tadhg Collins rolled home. We were well on top and had a number of chances before we got continue reading…

We beat UCC 4 – 1 in the Mardyke last night to record our 7th straight win in the league. We started the game well and had a chance to take the lead after just 30 seconds. Chris Cleary caught a defender in possession and played in Tadhg Collins who shot just wide. I didn’t take us long to find the opening goal though. In the 10th min Barry Lawlor played Cleary in down the left and his cross to the back post was perfect for Collins to nod home. We were well on top now and almost added a second in the 25th min. The ball broke to Paul Dawson in the area but his shot came back off the post. Cleary picked up on the loose ball and played it back to Michael Murphy whose shot clipped the top of the crossbar. UCC drew level in the 35th min after a defensive mix up and despite having another couple of half chances, we went in at the break level. UCC had a good 5 mins at the start of the 2nd half but after continue reading…

We beat Glenthorn 3-2 away from home today. Glenthorn started the game much better than us and took the lead after 10 mins. They had a couple of more half chances before we started to get into it after around 25 mins. We had a couple of good chances through Danny O Riordan and Tadhg Collins before Paul Dawson forced the keeper into making an excellent save. It stayed 1-0 to half time but we came out a lot stronger in the 2nd half.
Almost immediately Collins had a good chance and another followed for Chris Cleary. It took us until the 65th min to get back level. A Tim Kiely free kick from the left wing evaded both defenders and attackers before bouncing to the corner of the net. We were well on top now and Trevor O Connor almost gave us the lead when he volleyed just over from a Dawson corner. Our second goal came in continue reading…

We beat Rylane 5 – 4 at home in the 1st round of the County Cup. Despite the tough conditions, both teams played well in patches and either team could have won it. Rylane took the lead after 25 mins but we struck back immediately. Barry Lawlor surged through the centre of the Rylane defense and, when his shot came back off the post, Chris Cleary was on hand to finish it off. Rylane regained the lead and went 3-1 ahead on 40 mins but we pulled one back shortly before half time when Lawlor released Tadhg Collins who slipped it past the keeper. We pulled level after 55 mins in bizarre fashion. Keeper John Lehane kicked the ball long off his hands, it bounced just inside the box and over the head of the stranded keeper. Rylane again took the lead in the 65th min but again we pulled level shortly after. Excellent work from Brian Murphy on the wing led to him squaring for Paul Dawson to tap home from a couple of yards out. The game looked to be heading for extra time until continue reading…

The name of Los Zarcos given to them by Brian Sullivan of Millstreet Town’s Mal Paso Pub
Back in the very early eighties they were formed as a Football Club
Some of the players who played for Zarcos then the grandfathers of today
And some deceased and some from Millstreet living far away.

Some of their sons in the colours of Los Zarcos nowadays line out to play
They win some games and lose some games that’s life as some might say
In The Mal Paso Pub they drink to celebrate a win or ease the pain of a loss as their dads did in days gone by
On looking back the decades how time does seem to fly.
