Millstreet Community Student Third Year student, Ciarán O’Sullivan from Mologhroe, Cullen has been called up to the Republic of Ireland Under-15 Squad. They travel to Spain next week for three matches against Spain, the Netherlands and Hungary. Ciarán, who plays with Mallow United, is the sole Cork, and indeed Munster, representative to have been selected for this prestigious tournament and he is expected to earn his first cap for Ireland during the week. On Friday morning (25th Jan. 2019) School Principal Pól Ó Síodhcháin in the presence of the Student Assembly and Staff presented Ciarán with a special certificate on behalf of the school. He had his Ireland jersey with him and some of the School’s own soccer team kitted out for the occasion. Ciarán’s mother, Marie, was also present for the uplifting occasion. We extend sincere congratulations to the wonderfully talented Ciarán on such a magnificent sporting achievement. We thank Principal Pól for alerting us to the presentation and for providing the background information. Here we share a selection of some twelve images from the special event. Even a splendid rainbow appeared over the School following the occasion! Click on the images to enlarge. (S.R.) [read more …] “MCS Presentation to Soccer Player Supreme Ciarán O’Sullivan of Cullen”

The Community School Under 16 soccer outfit under new coach Mr O’Síodhcháin hit the ground running and began the Munster with an emphatic win at the Town park on Monday, October 22nd. Eoin Guiney had a hat-trick before the break, and scored again in the second half in a game that was never in doubt. Opponents Newcastlewest got one back at 3-0, but Guiney’s fourth meant their second was only a consolation . Millstreet now eagerly await their next game, the Munster quarter final. [1]

Millstreet Community School senior soccer team bounced back from a heavy loss in their first group match in Castleisland to beat St. Fanahan’s, in Mitchelstown, 5-4 in the John Murphy Cup. The win means they progress to the knockout stages of the competition and now face another tough away assignment against Schull Community College.
Having taken a two goal lead courtesy of the brace from Lael Tambwe, St. Fanahan’s battled back to take a 4-2 lead. However, with ten minutes to go the Millstreet students began their remarkable fightback. The third goal was scored by captain Colm O’Leary. Then it was the turn of two of the substitutes to play their part. Daniel Dennehy and Mateusz Ozaist both found the net, the last goal coming with virtually the final kick of the game.
It was a really spirited team performance and all the panel should be proud of their efforts.
We are looking for more ladies for indoor soccer. Come and join in with the giggles and laughter and great exercise.
It will be on Tuesday nights 8-9 in Banteer Astro turf.

The Millstreet Community School Senior Soccer Team’s terrific run in the John Murphy Cup sadly came to an end on Monday 11th January. The team lost 2-1 after extra time to Nagle Community College in their semi-final. Billy Cronin scored the team’s goal. Nothing was left on the pitch – all the boys gave everything for the cause and they should be proud of their efforts in this game and in the previous fixtures.
The senior soccer team from Millstreet Community School reached the semi-finals of the John Murphy Cup with an emphatic win over St. Ailbe’s, Tipperary Town. The match was played on the state of the art full-sized astro turf pitch in Charleville. The Millstreet team went into the half time break with a 2-0 lead. The second half proved to be more one-sided affair with Millstreet running out winners with scoreline of 7-0. Goal scorers were James Linehan (2), Billy Cronin (2), Thomas Walsh, Danny Buckley and Darren Kiely. The boys now meet Nagle Community College, Mahon, in the semi-final with home advantage. It is bound to be a stern test but one which the team are ready for. [read more …] “Millstreet Community School Senior Soccer Team reach Semi-Final of John Murphy Cup”
The Millstreet Community School Senior Soccer team won their third game in the John Murphy Senior Cup competition for under 19 boys. They played their latest game away against Castleisland Community College and won 6-1. Playing conditions were very difficult but this didn’t prevent the team putting on a fine controlled display. Goals scorers were Billy Cronin (a hat trick), Padraig Moynihan, Thomas Walsh and Dylan O’Leary, but it was another great team effort all round.
Congratulations to Millstreet Community School Senior Soccer Team on their win against St. Patrick’s, Castleisland in the John Murphy Cup on Friday 23rd October in the Town Park. The final score was 4-0, with goals from Thomas Walsh, Billy Cronin, Patrick Dineen and Mark Dennehy. It was a great team performance in difficult conditions. Next match after mid-term is away to Castleisland Community College.
