DUHALLOW U21 HURLING CHAMPIONSHIP – ROUND 1

MILLSTREET 0-12 KANTURK 0-11

Tonight Monday 16th July at 7:45pm in Millstreet Town Park

The concept for ‘A Day of the Region’ was first established in 1999 in Germany as an ‘Open Doors Event’ where organisations and communities in rural areas promoted what was in their own community in an effort to educate locals in an informal way about the opportunities and possibilities available to them in their region. Since this the concept has grown substantially with 8 other European Countries taking the initiative to develop it in their own regions.
‘Discover Duhallow… A Day of the Region’ is about capturing the essence of life in Duhallow and encouraging both locals and visitors alike to take part in the wide range of amenities, clubs and activities throughout our region. This 10 day programme will be a celebration of rural community life and will showcase what Duhallow has to offer those living here as well as those visiting the region. Many people who are new to the area and working outside the region are unaware of the wealth of activities and resources available right here on their door step.

To honour and remember the first Millstreet Town Park Committee members (and also people who have contributed so much to the care of the Town Park over many years) a special plaque has recently been put in place at Millstreet Town Park. This gesture is so very appropriate in that those wonderfully community-spirited people in the Ireland of the 1950s were so supremely far-seeing and conscious of what a magnificent setting like our Town Park (within our town) would mean for future generations. And how right they were! What a truly exquisite amenity we have in our town. Very special credit is due not only to the early pioneers of this great project and who are recalled on the impressive plaque but also to the present-day Town Park Committee. We thank Jerry Lehane for alerting us to this most deserving of monuments which is now permanently in place at the Town Park. Long may future generations enjoy such a marvellous environmental gem. (S.R.)

We kept the pressure up and got the opener after 10 mins. Lawlor swung in a corner which was met by Tadhg Collins. His header was blocked on the line but Dawson was waiting to slot home the rebound. Just 5 mins later we were two ahead. Good work on the wing from Brian Murphy saw the ball fed inside the box to Michael Murphy who cut back and curled a great shot to the far corner. We had more chances but it was UCC who got the next goal after a scramble in the box. The second half was continue reading…
