The video above shows Niamh Kavanagh last night performing her winning Eurovision song ‘In Your Eyes’ at the Green Glens Arena – the very place she won twenty years ago, at the twentieth anniversary celebrations of the Eurovision in Millstreet (18th May 2013). Niamh was the special guest at the party which was attended by about four hundred guests. Seán will surely have photos and video on the site in the next few days - video by Joseph Lawlor

LTV2 Millstreet Programme 219,in this Programme we have coverage of The Sponsors Promotion Night held in The Wallis Arms Hotel last Friday Night for the upcoming All Ireland Sheep Shearing Championship which will be held in The Green Glens on the weekend of May 25 and 26,we have music from Big Tom and Declan Nerney and we have Eily Buckleys Weekly Regional News

To get us in the mood for the 2013 Cork 20 Rally which will be based in Millstreet for the first time ever this year we take a look back at footage from some previous Cork 20 Rallies that have been held over the years to see what we have in store for us in Millstreet with the arrival of this event in October.

This time we go back to the 1987 Cork 20 Rally which would be the last Competitive Event that Billy Coleman took part in,driving a BMW M3 Coleman showed initial promise but crashed out in treacherous conditions early in the Rally.

Over the coming few weeks/months we will feature more Cork 20 footage from years gone by in a build up to what will be a Major Event for Millstreet to be held on 4th, 5th & 6th October 2013.

 

Taoiseach Enda Kenny, T.D. officially launched the Beara Breifne Way Heritage Stamps at a highly impressive event in Dublin's Mansion House on Wednesday, 15th May 2013.  Here we share some of the images from the landmark night (We shall upload a full feature next week).   The Taoiseach was delighted to receive a drawing of the Bridge over the Boeing from the O'Riordan children of Dromsicane, Millstreet.   Jim O'Sullivan from Castletownbere - the true hero in the overall project - and his family  as well as the Millstreet Group were joined by Taoiseach Enda before he left for yet another engagement that night.    A special thanks to Jerry Kelleher of Minor Row who is for many year in the Dept. of An Taoiseach - for his outstanding assistance to us at the event.  (S.R.)

At Millstreet Community School this afternoon the official launch of "Journeying - Personal History and Works of Imagination" was

At Millstreet Community School this afternoon the official launch of “Journeying – Personal History and Works of Imagination”  took place.   This is a book by the Living Scenes Intergenerational Group at the School and has been edited by John W. Sexton, Poet.   A superb exhibition of ceramic pieces based on the theme and on a visit to the Dingle area was enjoyed by the many who attended this afternoon’s very special gathering.   Pictured here are the Group who participated, supported and co-ordinated the inspiring project.  (S.R.)

The first Toughatlon was held in the Green Glens and Drishane last Saturday. There were lots of brave people who signed up to get wet, dirty, electric shocked and exhausted. The fact that the ground was saturated from a week of heavy rain only made it that much more interesting. One of the competitors had a GoPro camera attached to her head and have put the video of their course on youTube. (thanks to Joseph for letting us know about the video)

A very impressive "Meet & Greet" Gathering in advance of the National Sheep Shearing and

A very impressive “Meet & Greet” Gathering in advance of the National  and International Sheep Shearing and Woolhandling Championships at Green Glens on Sat./Sun. 25th & 26th May 2013 was held in the Wallis Arms Hotel on Friday, 10th May.   Pictured here are members of St. John’s G.A.A. Author/Singer/Composer Gerard O’Callaghan from Mallow presented an hour of superb delight today at Millstreet Library as part of the Bealtaine Festival. Gerard is also a long established member of Mallow Pipe Band.   A number of his marvellous stories have been broadcast on RTÉ’s “Sunday Miscellany”. The appreciative audience truly enjoyed Gerard’s songs and most enjoyable readings from his recently published book “Memories and Make Believe”. Gerard is pictured here with John, Breda (to whom we extend sincere thanks for organising the marvellous event) and Kathleen.   (S.R.)

Geraldine Dennehy did a superb job in arranging the group photograph and taking the official pictures.   We at the Millstreet website thank the organisers for permitting us to share some 127 images recording the magnificent occasion.   Ken D. Brennan, former Principal MCS delivered a wonderful address while three further members of the former Staff also attended.   Pádraig O’Driscoll was an excellent MC and DJ for the event and accorded much appreciated uplifting words re the value of the Millstreet Website.   The eight past-pupils who have gone to their Eternal Reward were very especially remembered at the beginning of the night.    Here we share a  continue reading…

A superbly organised MCS Class Reunion 1973 - 1978 took place at the Wallis Arms Hotel on Friday, 3rd May 2013.   Pádraig O'Driscoll as MC Supreme organised a most enjoyable 1970s quiz following the delicious meal awarding the winners the honour to cut the official Reunion Cake.   Lots more pictures to follow within the next 24 hours.  (S.R.)
