School Sports at Millstreet Town Park this morning (23rd June 2011) - Rain did not dampen the wonderful enthusiasm of the children.

We shall soon be indicating a video link to a truly excellent video produced by William McSweeney, his Primary School Class from Cobh and RTÉ’s Jim Wilson. William who lives and teaches in beautiful Cobh, is of course a native of Killarney Road, Millstreet – is a gifted Musician, an inspiring Teacher and a real Expert in the area of Nature Study. The Documentary is a gem and a delight… and deserves the highest of Oscars!
Updated: the video has been added below. It is 5th class pupils of Scoil Iosaef Naofa, Cobh, Co. Cork, Ireland (William’s class) as part of the International Schools Godwit Project, which is a co-operative international study between a school in Iceland, a school in Devon, England, and William’s class, in a joint effort to to link what the birds do on the wintering and breeding grounds in order to understand the factors that regulate the population size of a migratory bird species. Both Millstreet teams qualified for the finals where, Millstreet Boys NS will be playing Kanturk in the Boys’ 10 Aside Hurling Final, while Presentation NS Millstreet will play Derinagree NS in the Girls’ 7 Aside Camogie Final which will be held on the 10th of June.

The new Nano Nagle Wing was today blessed by Bishop Bill Murphy at a very special ceremony in Presentation N.S., Millstreet. Following the concelebration of Mass in St. Patrick's Church the blessing took place followed by the planting of a symbolic tree. Lots more pictures of the truly historic event to follow in time.

A wonderfully colourful Easter Bonnet Fashion Show took place at Presentation N.S., Millstreet before the Easter Holidays. We are presently preparing a full feature on this exquisite annual event....so lots more pictures to follow shortly. And Millstreet will of course witness its annual Easter Parade to the Monument in the Square on this Sunday after 11.30 a.m. Mass where a very interesting address will be delivered remembering those who helped to achieve independence for Ireland.
Kilcorney N.S. has just recently set up a website. It is currently been developed by the staff and pupils of the school. The website will hopefully encourage the local people of the area, and of neighboring towns and villages, to keep in touch with the school and the work of its students. The website has pictorial records of some of the great events that have taken place both on and off the school grounds including the visit of the Sam Maguire, receiving the Green Flag award, schools tours and the work of the children. Pupils of Cullen N.S. with Teachers, Parents and Friends participating in the National Spring Clean in Cullen on Friday, 1st April 2011 - setting a truly inspiring example of civic pride in our own community.
Co-ordinated by Teacher Sinéad Murphy and Principal Hannah Kelleher and in conjunction with An Taisce, the young people spent over an hour gathering several bags of litter. They approached their task both cheerfully and enthusiastically and were guided by very helpful adults.
