Thought for the week ahead

Christianity is not merely belief.

It is the practice of that belief by active charity. (Frank Duff)Saturday 21st November celebrates the feast day for the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, and celebrates when Mary was asked to be the mother of the Jesus. Her response, “Let it be done to me,” was a great act of faith as she placed her whole self at the service of God.

This weekend we say a special prayer for mothers everywhere and ask the Blessed Virgin Mary to protect them and guide them in these challenging times.

As a mark of respect to the sisters of the Presentation Order a wreath was laid in the Presentation Cemetery by the Girls National School and the Community School in recognition of the service the sisters have given to our Parish. [read more …] “Millstreet Parish Newsletter 22nd November 2020”

Dearest Parishioners,

I hope ye are all keeping well & staying safe as we move into another cycle of Covid-19 where no public Masses are allowed.  However, I am going to continue saying a private Mass for the Station Areas as they are listed in the newsletter.  Some have booked Anniversary Masses for family members and these will be said on the appropriate date.  The parish office remains open so contact Evelyn if you have any queries.

Wishing you every blessing & good health.

Fr Tom

P.S. The church is open daily for private prayer or to light a candle.

Religious Broadcasts on Cork Music Station to Continue

For the next fortnight we shall be broadcasting live the celebration of Mass at St. Patrick’s Church, Millstreet as we have been doing since the beginning of the onset of COVID-19 with its many restrictions.   Our week-day daily broadcasts will continue for the next fortnight and will then end as more people are gradually being permitted to attend Church for the celebration of Mass.   However, our broadcast of 11.30 a.m. Sunday Mass will continue until full congregations are permitted to attend Mass in Church.   And our “Lunchtime Favourites” following Mass until 1.15pm will also continue on Cork Music Station.   We thank the very many Listeners worldwide who have been tuning into our Religious Broadcasts and who have been sending such uplifting kind comments.  If you wish to make contact with our Radio Station just email corkmusicstation@ gmail.com.

As Congregations return to Church this week

A few words from the Bishop on the current situation in relation to return to Mass.

As Congregations return to Church this week,

please return slowly and be understanding.

A warm welcome to all those who join us for Holy Mass this first week and weekend. It is a joy to have the return of congregations. The delight of so many, is an indicator that it is vital to nourish the spirit and the soul, as well as the body. We do not face the world on our own, God is there with us.

There is upset and disappointment that large churches are restricted to a congregation of 50 people. The hope is that before the end of the month this will change to 100, in churches where social distancing can be maintained. If only 50 can be present, then let that fifty pray and offer Mass on behalf of the whole parish community.

The 50 persons limit for indoor gatherings does bring home to us, the fact that we must take personal and communal responsibility to follow Public Health Guidelines. This is a vital realisation. We owe it to all the front-line workers who have been so brave and selfless. Only thus, can we hope to keep the virus suppressed in our communities.

Because of the restriction to 50, we ask people to be understanding and, if possible, to come to Mass in church during the weekdays rather than on these first few weekends. Let a weekday Mass be your Sunday worship, at least for the next few weeks.

Our Lady, health of the sick, pray for us.

Return of Public Mass

RETURN OF PUBLIC MASSES

As announced last weekend it is with optimism and caution that we announce the return of Public Masses from next Monday 29th June however, as you are now aware that the current Government guidelines have set the capacity for indoor ceremonies to 50 people.

Attending Mass will be very different at the moment and I am asking for your understanding and patience as we put safety measures in place. Some people may not feel comfortable in attending Mass due to underlying medical conditions that they have or someone in their household have, so please be assured that the dispensation from attending Mass on Sundays and Holydays of Obligation remains in place until further notice.

Our proposed Mass schedule for the first week is:

Millstreet: Monday 29th, Tuesday 30th, Wednesday 1st, Thursday 2nd and Friday 3rd at 10.00a.m. Saturday 4th at 6.30p.m. and Sunday 5th at 11.30a.m.
Cullen: Thursday 2nd at 7.30p.m.

SUNDAY MASSES WILL RECOMMENCE IN BALLYDALY & CULLEN ON SUNDAY 12th JULY.

To allow Parishioners who wish to attend Mass, with the maximum being 50 people at any one ceremony, it is now recommended that a reservation system be put in place in Parishes for the time being. I am asking Parishioners who wish to attend a Mass during the week to contact the Parish office during working hours to reserve a place. This system will be in place for all Churches in the Parish from Wednesday onwards.

These requests may be difficult for some people to understand or accept but we have to ensure the safety of each single person who comes into our Churches. For those who will attend Mass the following will need to be noted:

  1. Parishioners attending Mass should wear a face covering in the Church. (Please note that face coverings are not suitable for children under the age of 13 and that not everyone will feel comfortable wearing a face covering. While the wearing of a face covering is recommended it is not mandatory).
  2. We will have ushers in the Church to show you to a seat and we will be asking people to fill the Church from the top down to limit the movement indoors. For leaving the Church after any Ceremony it will be from the bottom to the top.
  3. Holy Communion will be given in your seat by Eucharistic Minister/Priest who will be wearing a face covering.
  4. Ushers will also monitor and control the exiting of people after Mass and we are asking that you do not congregate in the Church yard after leaving the Churches.
  5. It is recommended that Church pews are cleaned after each ceremony.
  6. Toilets will remain closed.
  7. We are advised not to have altar servers at the moment.
  8. At weekend Masses the passing of baskets is not recommended so our collection will now be inside the door of the Churches

These guidelines are advised by Government, the National Public Health Emergency Team (NPHET) and the Irish Bishop’s Conference and for the safety of each of us and our families. I thank you for your co-operation and understanding at this time and may God continue to protect your families and our Parish.

Fr. John Fitzgerald
