Dia is mhuire diobh go leir a cairde, and welcome to news Report 1015 from Millstreet.

Fondest greetings dear listeners and I wish you all the best on this soft and sunny Tuesday morning June 1st.

Our busy week of events went off fine here in Millstreet. The Golden Jubilee celebration in honour of Mons. Manning on Friday night was a wonderful occasion. It began with 8 o’clock Mass in our church, with over twenty priests attending. Many members of his family came the celebrate with him. The parish choir were well prepared and the pipe band greeted the large crowd as they left the church to go to the GAA Hall where many presentations were made to our beloved pastor on the occasion of his golden Jubilee and retirement. Presentations were also made to his faithful staff Mary Ann Buckley who has worked at the Presbetry since 1988 and cared for Canon Browne, Canon O Donovan, as well as Mons.Manning. Margaret Kelleher was specially honoured for her great work a sacristan, following in the steps of her late grandmother and her mother, who herself was honoured by the pope himself for her dedication to Ballydaly church. Some lovely refreshments were then served and music was laid on by our Comaltas Group. Well done to all who arranged this great event.

This week I’d like to convey our heartiest congratulations to my dear brother, Bro. Vincent Corkery, of the De La Salle order who has been working in Malaysia for over sixty years and in appreciation of him great work, the Sultan of Perak (head of state in Perak, Malaysia) of that country conferred him with the highest honour in the land, namely the DATO title. It would be the equivalent of knighthood in this part of the world. He loves Ireland and comes home every year, but his Heart is in his beloved Malaysia. In accepting this great honour he said he was taking it on behalf of all missionaries, who worked in that land including all the Sisters of the Dishane Order .

Many congratulations to our own Sean Radley on receiving a very prestigious Award at UCC recently.

Many congratulations to Fr. Paddy O Byrne who celebrated the Golden Jubilee  of his Ordination at Lincoln, Nebraska on March 29th.where he had missioned for over forty years . It was indeed  an honour for me  to be present at this historic ceremony which saw the mighty Cathedral of that City packed to capacity. Up to a 140 priests in all attended, as did countless numbers of nuns, The Knights of Columbus and the hundreds of people to whom he has endeared himself over the years.  The popular Fr. The awful happenings in Haiti  some days ago, shook the world, but here in Millstreet we felt a kind of affiliation with that country, because last years our community fundraised to enable Jerry Pat O Leary to go to that troubled land, as part of the Haven organisation, to build houses for those people who are so, so poor. Jerry tells us that the place where they worked is well away from the epi-centre of the earthquake and that the houses they built are still intact. He is having a meeting with the Haven organisation to-night to decide what further help they can be in Haiti. We will keep you informed. And please note that a fund for the cause has been opened at our Credit Union.

Again this week I have no lotto results because like so many other things it too fell victim to the bad weather on Sunday night. We can only hope that it will go ahead on next Sunday night when it will be held at the Clara Inn with a Jackpot on €2 200.

These times we really must take our hats off to our local radio station. Every one of the crew left no stone unturned to keep the public informed in minute detail of all the happenings or lack of happenings around the County. Its is at times like these that we see the value of having our own local station. Please support well at all times.

It looks great and is used by those doing the readings. The Crib was placed just inside the entrance door, down at the end of the church, for the first time in many, many years. No matter what the weather, the shopping goes on with perhaps some people forced to shop at home because of the weather. The Marquee will be in the Square till Christmas Eve and vouchers at the Credit Union will solve your gift problem at any price, And by what I hear, they are proving very very popular. Some worth €20 each, were offered as prizes on LTV2s program last week and the lucky winners were, Breda O Leary, West End, Sean and Delia Kelleher, Macroom, Kathleen McAulliffe, Millstreet, and John F. Dia is mhuire diobh go leir a Cairde and welcome to news report 988 from Millstreet.

Fondest greetings dear listeners and I wish you all the very best on this rather wintery Tuesday morning.

This is FRIENDSHIP WEEK, so get out there a give everybody a smile or a hug or whatever it is that you do best, to brighten up their day.

A great crowd of friends, family and supporters, attended the celebration party which was held at our Nibbles Café on Saturday night. Eleanor proudly displayed her All Ireland Award as she welcomed her guests. Canon Declan came to bless the place and he was accompanied by Fr Paddy O Byrne. The food was both plentiful and tasty and her winning dish of pear and almond tart was in great demand. And on behalf of everyone I want to wish Eleanor and her wonderful staff every success for the future. Look up the Website for all the pictures .
