Dia is mhuire diobh go leir a Cairde and welcome to the year 2012 and to news report 1096 from Millstreet.

Fondest greetings dear listeners and I wish you all the very best on this calm morning following a very stormy night .

Millstreet is waking up from a very enjoyable and safe Christmas period. Buíochas le Dia. Next Sunday night will see the return of our weekly Parish Lotto draw. It will be held at the Clara Inn on Sunday night with a Jackpot of €4,200. Tickets will go on sale during the week from the usual outlets.

Our sincere sympathy goes to Johnnie O’Keeffe on the death last week, of his dear wife Lena. Lena was a staunch member of our community. She worked tirelessly for the Tidy Towns effort, and for many years she and Johnnie were familiar figures as they combed the area picking up papers and rubbish. Thus helping our town to win many awards over the years.

May her gentle soul now rest in Peace.

Our town’s people have to be commended for the way they lit up their places for the Festive Season. The brightly lit trees on the houses enhanced the fine tree in the town square and the expense was evenly shared by all.

There were prizes of €100 each for the best. And many congratulations to Charlotte Barrett, Sycamore Drive on winning the best Private House award and to our Thrift Shop for the Best Business premises Award.

Our Men’s Shed has become a reality. It is set up in Lower Pound Hill and men of all walks of life are welcome to join. Contact Bertie Buckley for details. Men’s Sheds are being set up all over the country where men can meet and be to-gether and enjoy good company and perhaps get engaged in worthwhile projects.

The knitting Club will resume next week as well as the many other pastimes in the parish.

LTV2 which continued all through the Christmas will be on your screens with a new show on Thursday night at ten and repeated on Sunday night at 8. Macroom local TV is on every Wednesday night at and repeated on Sunday evening . And look out for a special program with a religious aspect every Sunday evening at 5pm. Be reminded that LTV2 programs can now be viewed on the Millstreet website www.millstreet.ie

Christmas is almost over but the loveliest night of the year it yet to come. This Friday January 6th is the Feast of the Epiphany and a Holy Day of obligation, Church services will be as for Sunday.

But it is also the Women’s Christmas. And on that night over 200 women of all ages will converge on the Wallis Arms Hotel for a sit-down meal and a night of dancing to the beautiful music of the Kelt. This event was started last year by Mairead Daly, and it proved such a success that all tickets for this year were sold out months ago. See what one person with a good idea can do. Well done Mairead.

I have a notice here from Bina Burke to say that she is no longer collecting used stamps. The people she was collecting them for say that it is no longer viable to do so. And she would like to say many thanks to Denis & Maura Cronin at the Siopa Deas for taking them in for her over the years.

As we start another New Year I’d like to say a million thanks to one of Millstreet’s sons now living in New Zealand or is it Australia (actually west of Melbourne, Australia). But wherever Fransie Duggan lives he never fails to entertain us here in his home town with his wonderful poetry. Thank you Fransie for your wonderful words, especially about anybody who passes away . No sooner are they gone but he will have several verses of meaningful words to say about them. We just want you to know that your efforts are highly appreciated. Long may you continue.

Millstreet representatives took part in the Cork County Scór na nOg finals at, Ovens. And both our ballad group Muireann Buckley at solo singing took runners-up place . Also taking part were our Quiz group .

While our Macra Group swept the board at the County Novice Debating Final which was held at Ballinagree, getting Best Speaker and Best Chairperson as well as the best overall title.

The New Year’s Day plunge of the Black water had to be deferred because the river was too high. I’m told it’s to be held on next Sunday, but please check it out.

I want to wish you all a very Holy & successful New Year, wherever you are . With so many of our lovely young people now living in Australia and other places, it is nice to think that we can reach you on the media. May God Bless you all.

Dia is mhuire diobh go leir a cairde and welcome to news report 1092 from Millstreet.

Fondest greetings dear listeners and I wish you all the very best on this wet Tuesday morning following a night of high winds an heavy rains.

We were indeed deeply honoured at the weekend when the Eucharistic Bell was brought to our Church. A very large crowd turned up for the historic event and after prayers everybody was invited to come to the altar and ring the bell. We all went up knowing that we will never again get the chance again. People came from many other places to see it and we were so proud of our beautiful church all lit up for the occasion. Next morning it resumed its journey through the highways and byways of Ireland.
