in Cork on 15th April 2012.   Renowned Organiser, Paddy O’Brien was very impressed with Loretta’s rendition of this wonderful song and recalled how with his Aubane roots, fondly remembered attending Cullen Feis as a young person.    Paddy began the Over-60s Competition in 1977 and some years ago was chosen as the Cork Person of the Year for having developed this hugely popular annual event to the very impressive level which it has now successfully reached.    Having won the North Cork Section of this year’s Competition Loretta is guaranteed the full support of Millstreet Parish as she participates in the Semi-Final in Cork on 15th April.    She was given a splendidly warm reception when she brought the winning cup to the Canon O’Donovan Centre this week.    Sincere Congratulations, Loretta and every success in the Semi-Final.  (S.R.)

Please let me remind you of the fundraising dance which is being held at Hourigans Bar in Newmarket this Friday night February, 10^th in aid of Suicide Awareness. A special CD compiled by local artists will launched on the night for the cause. Music by the ever popular Southern Pride.

I was asked to warn people to unplug their PCs when not in use, one was found to catch fire recently.

The first Church Gate collection ever held by LTV2 will  be held this Weekend   February 11/12^th ,in Millstreet, Ballydaly and Cullen . Please support it well.

The Newly formed Menshed is going remarkably well, and as things stand it looks like the open hours will be extended far beyond the present two sessions on a Tuesday morning. Organisers meetings are being held to put the venture on official footing. All men of all ages are welcome. Contact Bertie Buckley for the latest details.

Our Singing Club is also enjoying great support. It is held on Thursday nights from 7.30 pm in the comfort of the Pastoral Centre .and it is free of charge. Both men and women welcome.

And our knitting Club is on every Tuesday night at the Adult Learning Centre in the Main St. All types of Crafts welcome. Please take note that the morning knitting sessions at the Library have been discontinued for the moment.

The first of two Creative Writing Workshops for Adults with renowned Author Vincent O Donnell will be held  at our Library on to-morrow Wednesday from 10.30 to 11.30, and will be held again on Wednesday of next week Feb.15^th at the same time. All welcome.

Two of our 5^th year girls of the Community School, Orla Kiely and Laura Dennehy, are going to Lourdes at Easter  to work as volunteers among the sick and disabled. To help raise funds to cover  their expences a monster Cake Sale will be held at the Pastoral Centre on This Saturday February 11^th after the 6.30 Mass.

Our Camogie Club would like to thank all those who supported their recent Church Gate Collection.

Young Padraig Moynihan competed in the All Ireland Cross Country Championships which were held in Roscommon,  didn’t will any medal but benefitted from the experience just the same.

Sadly our roadsides are getting very shabby again  from the amount of rubbish that is being thrown out of passing vehicles. And plastic bags and plastic packaging is becoming a common sight on roadside trees and bushes, where they still wave in the wind months after landing.

Road users are asked to please refrain from this revolting practice.

We know only too well that there is little money to pay for clean-up so residents both in town and country areas are asked to do their utmost to keep their own immediate areas litter free.

Speaking at a specially convened meeting in the Wallis Arms Hotel in Millstreet recently, Deputy Collins said: ‘I am delighted to announce that following on from discussions I have had with Department of Health officials about the future of the Millstreet Community Hospital, I can confirm that it will not be closing this year under the recently proposed budgetary cuts’.

“According to the Department of Health, the future of Millstreet Hospital is safe for now. Obviously this is a situation which I will monitor closely, as the loss of the Community Hospital would have a huge impact on the local area.

“I have proposed setting up a action group to listen to and represent local interests where the future development of the Hospital is concerned.

“A local action group would be best placed to monitor the situation and ensure that the long-term viability of Millstreet Community Hospital is maintained. The group would represent the interests of those who live locally and who would be most heavily impacted by any changes. The provision of community care is essential to those who live in Millstreet and its surrounding areas. The hospital is an invaluable part of our community and, I am delighted to say, will remain so for the foreseeable future.”

Regular meetings are being held by the Community Council and local
representatives, to monitor the situation regarding our Community Hospital, and the signs are that there is no danger of it closing in the near future.

Tickets at €25 each are now on sale, from any member, for the Community Council Awards Social which will be held at the Wallis Arms Hotel on Friday March 2nd.

Many congratulations to the lovely Gubby Twomey,  Murphy’s Terrace who
celebrated her 90th birthday recently.

This year our parish will be celebrating the Centenary of both our Carnegie
Hall and the Aubane Social Club, which of course was a National School
until the 70s.

The kindness of people never fails to amaze, The Swim at the Blackwater
realised over €4,000 for Multiple Sclerosis, and the 24hour fast in
Dromtarriffe made €8,300 for Cope. Many thanks again to all who
contributed. And well done to the organisers.

The Texas Holden Poker Tournament   will be held at the Wallis Arms Hotel
on Sunday February 19th, in aid of St John’s  GAA Club .

The Monster MAC, Adventure Race, is making a comeback to Millstreet again this
year in April. MAC stands for Millstreet Athletic Challenge, Last time the
organisers were delighted with the help they got from the local Community ,
and they will need it again. And they are holding an information evening at
the Wallis Arms Hotel this Saturday February 4th at 8.30, please give them

In athletics I want to wish every success to  young Padraig Moynihan and
James and Billy Cronin who are competing in the  All Ireland Cross Country

held in Lisburn, Co, Antrim at the weekend.

LTV2 celebrated program 200 in style at the Pub in Carriginma last night.

Dancing, storytelling, and lovely food. Don’t miss it on this Thursday
