Enthusiastic Young Visitors at Millstreet Museum on Friday

We were delighted to welcome the wonderfully enthusiastic Second Class pupils from Scoil Mhuire, Millstreet BNS at Millstreet Museum on Friday accompanied by Ms Norma Buckley and Mrs. Veronica Twomey.  The Tour lasted one hour and we listened to the most interesting questions and heard some fascinating facts from the very attentive children. The Friends of Mallow Hospital Express Sincere Thanks for a Very Successful Collection in Millstreet

Marymount Hospice Fundraising Project Progressing Well

The Marymount Hospice Fundraising Project is progressing very well.  Its coordinators, Jerry O’Donoghue and Tim Cronin with their supportive team are very pleased with the generous response being received.  Next month’s Draw which will take place in The Pub, Carriganima will not only have the three prizes from the ticket to be drawn but people (who have bought a ticket) will also have a further chance of winning ten extra truly valuable prizes which have been kindly sponsored and which will also be drawn on the night.   All results will appear online here on the Millstreet website.    (S.R.)

Bernard Hennessy, who purchased the last 11 houses in Radharc Na Coille, Rathcoole will hold an ‘OPEN HOUSE’ Weekend on Saturday, September 27th and Sunday, September 28th from 12 noon to 6pm on both days.

Tomi Reichental Visits Millstreet Community School on Wednesday

Tomi Reichental visited Millstreet Community School on Wednesday, 17th Sept. 2014.  Coordinated by School Chaplain, John Magee and his Team this was such a unique privilege for the senior Students to hear a remarkably inspiring address by the world famous child survivor of the notorious Bergen -Belsen concentration camp. Basic Sign Language Classes – IRD Duhallow

Basic Sign Language Classes

IRD Duhallow will hold Basic Sign Language Classes beginning on the 30th of September. The classes will run for two nights per week for 4 weeks and will cover such topics as: Vocabulary, Expressions, Family, Numbers, Hospital, Colours, Conversation, Fun Stories etc. The Sign Language Classes will empower and educate participants in the use of Sign Language thereby heightening awareness of those with disabilities in our community. Please note that there is a course fee of €55 per person to take part in this course. We were delighted to welcome twin brothers Jim (on left) and Michael Fenton from the USA to Millstreet Museum on Monday morning,15th Sept. 2014.  Also included is Mary Kelleher (Museum Staff) and Ann Hickey, first cousin of the twins.   We also recorded a brief interview for local television with Jim who is from the New York Fire Department and with Michael who is in the American Navy.  Click on the images to enlarge.  (S.R.)

Asthma Clinic in Mulcahy’s Pharmacy from 11am-5pm on Thursday

 

“The Asthma Society of Ireland is holding a free Asthma Clinic in Mulcahys Pharmacy from 11am-5pm on Thursday ,11th of September. There is no admission fee, with all services and information provided completely free of charge. Please phone 029-70792 to book your appointment. The most recent statistics from the CSO indicate that 10% of people in Munster have asthma. This figure is almost double that in children under the age of 14 years, with 19% of children in Tipperary, Clare, Cork, Kerry, Limerick and Waterford suffering from the condition. Asthma is a serious condition which affects patients’ quality of life and can result in hospitalisation or, in the worst cases, death. Attendees at the Asthma Clinic will have their asthma management reviewed, their inhaler technique checked and their lung function tested. Asthma Specialist Nurses will be on hand to answer questions and give expert advice during a confidential, one to one consultation. Topics covered on the day will include asthma advice for children and adults, allergy avoidance and what to do during an asthma attack.”

Blessed with mild weather the victory Parade for the Duhallow Football Champions - Millstreet - took place at 6.30 pm on Sunday, 31st Aug. 2014 with lots of enthusiastic spectators lining the Parade Route.
