The participants in this "B" Walk were hugely impressed by the splendid views in evidence that day from the Cross - a perfect day for such a walk when the scenery could not have been clearer. There will be a public meeting in Millstreet GAA Hall next Monday night 14th May at 8pm, where a talk will be given on the upcoming referendum of the EU Fiscal Treaty, household charges, septic tank charges, and water charges. All are welcome.

The Millstreet group campaigning against household charges and austerity meet Monday nights at 8.30pm in the Bush Bar. Anyone that wishes to join the campaign is welcome. Contact (087)3560013.

A treat for all Daniel O’Donnell fans: in New Years eve at the end of 1994, Daniel O’Donnell played a concert from Millstreet which was RTÉ’s New Years Eve programme at the time and shown live on TV. RTÉ is fifty years old this year, and are showing some programmes from the past, and included in these is the concert from Millstreet.

Daniel is accompanied by the RTÉ concert orchestra, conductor Noel Kelehan, and the Daniel O’Donnell band.  He is joined on stage by Mary Duff, Mary from Dungloe as well as others.

The death has occurred on Wednesday May 2nd 2012 of Michael Kelleher, New York and formerly of Aubane.

Visitation this Friday from 2:00 – 5:00pm & 7:00 – 9:00pm at Schuyer Hill Funeral Home. Requiem Mass tomorrow Saturday, May 5th at 11am in St. Frances De Chantal, Bronx, NY with burial afterwards in the Gate of Heaven Cemetery.

Carriganima National School have been successful in their appeal to the Department of Education and Skills and have retained their second teacher. They will be holding an Open Night on Wednesday 16th May 2012 from 7 – 9pm. Everyone welcome to visit the school, meet the teachers and pupils and view a presentation on “A Day in the Life of Our Junior Infants”. The school is currently taking enrollments for September 2012. Pick up/drop off service provided to Clondrohid Crèche.

Derinagree NS have just received the fantastic news that they have been awarded their first Green Flag for the school. This is a tremendous acheivement! A delegation has been invited to collect their well deserved flag at an Awards Ceremony in Cork on May 22nd.

Population figures published in the last few days by the Central Statistics Office show that in the census of 2011, Millstreet Town had a population of 1,574 people, while 6,384 lived in the area around the town (Millstreet Rural Area).

The number of people in town is up 173 (12.3%) from 1,401 in the 2006 census. Within that there are 796 males (up 52), and 778 females (up 121). While the rural population has increased by 551 from 6384 in 2006.

The Drishane (20.4%) and Rathcoole (27.2%) areas have shown the largest growth over the five years, while there have been some loss in population in the rural areas of Skagh (-12%), Derragh (-4.5%), and Knocknagree (-4.6%).

Peace Commissioner, Jerry Lehane draws one of the winning tickets in the Millstreet Vintage Club Draw on Sunday, 29th April at the Wallis Arms Hotel while John Sheehan of Millstreet Vintage Club very efficiently coordinates the well attended event . Some of the many participants in today's very successful Vintage Run pictured at the Square in advance of setting off on the enjoyable event. When the Tractors, Cars and Bikes returned to the Wallis Arms Hotel at 4 p.m. a very fine meal followed and then it was time for the official Draw - the results of which will soon be shared. Jim Fitzgerald of Kanturk has over 400 magnificent pics. of today's event on his Facebook which we shall later share. Great credit is due to the excellent organisers of today's very successful event.
